FEAR OF BEING JUDGED __WEEK 90(EDITION 1)

Why do people hide their pain behind laughter????

I have askeed myself this question many timees.

You see someebody today, he is laughingg, cracking jokes, makingg everybody haappy. Next day you hear say that same person no dey okay at all. He has been going through a lot but nobody knew because he was always smiling.

The truth is, laughter is the easiest way to hide pain.

If you cry for public, people will look at you. Some will ask what is wrong, some will judge you, some will even use it to gossip. But if you laugh, nobody asks anything. Laughter is like a cover. You use it to tell people "I am fine" even when you are not fine.

For me, I think there are reasons.

One is fear. People are afraid to look weak. Especially for us here. If a man says he is not okay, they will say he is not man enough. If you say you are going through depression, some people will just tell you to go and work....... So instead of talking, you just laugh over everything..... You turn your pain to joke so that people will not see how deep it is.

Another one is protection. When you laugh, you control what people see. You don't give them chance to know what is really hurting you. Some people have opened up before and they regretted it. They told someone their problem and the person used it against them. So they learned to keep everything inside and just smile.

Some people are also used to being the funny one. They are the life of the party. Everybody expects them to be happy. So they feel like they cannot be sad. They think if they show their pain, people will not like them again. So they continue to laugh even when they are tired inside.

And honestly, not everybody cares. Some people have realized that when you tell people your problem, many don't really listen. They just want story to carry. So you ask yourself, why should I stress myself? Better to just laugh and keep your pain to yourself.

The funniest person in a room can be the one carrying the heaviest pain. That is life.

I have been there too. I have smiled and laughed when inside I was not okay. I think most of us have.....right

People hide pain behind laughter because the world does not always give space for sadness......... Laughter is more accepteed🫶🥰🥰🥰🥰

Maybe we should try to check on those friends that are always laughing. Sometimes they are the ones who need us the most.
