The beauty of culture

I see culture as a means of identity. Culture is basically the way you and the people around you do things.

Over time, we have seen several cultures, and we have seen some of these cultures evolve. Culture could be seen a means of identifying where a person comes from, their roots.

Culture could be in the form of dressing, food, values, language, way of life and much more.

In Nigeria, there are several cultures and many ways it they can be displayed.

During festivals, different tribes display their culture through their dressing. In Africa for example, you could see different Ankara designs, different styles of attires. Some require caps, some require wearing beads. The hairstyle and the footwear also add to the culture in terms of appearance.

Culture could also be displayed through food. In my culture, some of the popular local foods are abacha, and several soups like Egusi and oha. Different cultures have their own special soups that are unique to them. Generally, in Nigeria, there are several foods like rice, yam, beans, and many more that showcase the Nigerian culture.

Language is another popular display of culture. The major languages in Nigeria are Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba. Each of these languages represent very massive cultures. There are many other tribes in Nigeria and most of them with their own languages. Language is really crucial because it is one major way people identify with their culture.

Other ways culture is displayed are style of greeting, the marriage rites and ceremonies, style of celebration.

Variety is the spice of life, and that applies to culture. There are many cultures out there and that's what makes it beautiful. Every culture is unique and has something valuable to learn about. I believe there's beauty in the diversity culture brings.

Culture gives that sense of belonging. It's a way to identify with where you come from. Nothing can take the place of culture.

One thing I love about Nigerian culture is the language. I hope to visit there sometime.
