The truth about following passion is that passion will not feed you. But passion is also necessary to follow. I personally believe that financial security should come first, but passion should never be ignored. But the real wisdom and idea is knowing how to balance both passion and financial security.
Passion will make you feel fulfilled, it also gives you the reason to wake up one morning to go to work.
You will always see people who work and at the they leave the job and people keep saying that they are not serious . The truth is no matter the passion you have for anything, you need something that will drive your passion and at times what drives our passion is the finance.
I remember the other time that was in a recruitment panel, interviewing teachers. It got to a time, one of the panelists asked a young lady, why she choosed to apply for the job, and she said that she has passion for the job. I ask her what if your boss owe you for a month or two for some reasons would you still be happy to come to work, will the passion still be there ? She smiled. I told her regardless of the passion you have for anything, there must be something that drives that passion. And for this teaching job, you need money to be paying your way down to work, you need money to feed yourself, you need to have some savings. So the finance comes in here. Financial security gives you stability, while passion gives you fulfilment. And to be fulfilled you need to be stable.
To this end, I believe the best approach is to use a financially rewarding job to fund your passion until your passion becomes financially sustainable. Meaning you need to be financially stable for your passion to be stable.
