When I told my fellow corpers that I was going home for Eid Mubarak, they all convinced me to wait in Ibadan, where I am currently observing my National Youth Service Corps, just because it's not a long holiday. Luckily for me, I have the weekend included in the holiday, so it bought me more time to travel back home.
This time of the year is arguably one of my favorites, not because of the meat, food, or hype that comes with the season. I believe the season serves the purpose of bringing us together as friends and family to enjoy each other's company and create incredible memories we can always revisit years from now, like we are doing now revisiting the beautiful memories we shared with my deceased uncle.
The 6th of June 2025 started with mixed feelings because we couldn't do without remembering my uncle, who passed away a few years ago. He is the eldest in my dad's family and played a huge role every year bringing the whole family together during Eid Mubarak, but he's no more.
We remembered him for the way he made everyone laugh with his funny jokes, and there was a minute of silence observed to honor him. I noticed the family wasn't as happy as we used to be, and it took my dad's intervention to change the atmosphere; he had to fill that vacation position, even though not completely. He said a little prayer and cheered everyone up before we departed for Eid prayers.
Immediately after Eid prayers, our mood had lightened up, and right outside the prayer ground, there were drummers entertaining us, so we went there to dance as a family.
It's been a long time since I danced like that, and no one was left out. Our mood was different from how we left the house, and I love to see smiles on everyone's faces. My lover came to the same Eid prayer ground, so we danced together to the local drums, and it was really fun.
Home was our next stop to prepare some food to entertain our guests, but to be honest, I didn't have much planned for myself at home since my lover had plans. I helped with little things before going out with my lover and some of our friends.
To cut the story short, we had a beautiful time, and I am happy I didn't choose to stay back in Ibadan. Seeing my family share videos of those beautiful moments would have got me crying.
Eid Mubarak continues today, and I have plans for today, but not until evening. I have so much to do at home, including posting on Hive since I didn't have spare time yesterday.
Hopefully, I will share how today went in another post, and I believe you also had a great time irrespective of your religion. We are one, and I pray we live long to celebrate more Eid Mubarak in Almighty Allah's comfort.
