Electricity supply in my area has become a thing of great concern. The authority responsible for distribution of light within my area is called Abuja Electricity Distribution Company. Previously they are known as NEPA but the government sold them out to private owners where the nomenclature metamorphosed as well to the aforementioned one.
Since the privatization, to be candid there is no quality delivery of service from their end. The light supply is not consistent. Earlier when I arrived the area, it used to be ration two days on and two days off. That kind of tarif was a bit better compared to what we are experiencing now. You hardly have light to do what you want to do. The sad thing is that sometimes the current will be very low that it can't even pick most of the electric appliances at home. Remember this light supply is not free rather you are expected to pay either monthly or with your prepared meter you pay as you consume.
The house where in live is a rented apartment where we manage one prepaid metre with our landlord. Once the subscription expires recharging is always a challenge. I was told that there are different bands base on one's location and each determines what you would pay. For us we happened to be in band C which seems to be one of the least.
Sincerely they aren't faithful in supply of light as it ought to be.
The quite unfortunate thing that has befallen us is in the area of their current charges without any physical proof of improvement. How would you recharge 5,000 naira and won't take more than two weeks even though we don't use it for ironing or heavy duties that consumes more quantity of light. It's annoying and somehow frustrating.
Another thing is that once is raining season hmmmm that's when most poles will start falling down. They supposed to inspect them once they are changing seasons like this to avoid interruption and quality delivery of service. What are they doing with the high bills placed on people.
There should be an improvement in service delivery so that it will equate their charges. Let other proactive steps be put in place especially during rainy season.
I have started thinking of an alternative. Solar is my next target. I hope to write some few thoughts on the relevance of solar system.
