parents or children?

This is one story I haven't shared before with anyone; I feel like it's incredible that I get to share it here for the first time: "You are very lucky, "Nah" just joking. So sit tight and enjoy the ride with me "with some popcorn" by your side.

Back then, in school, my sister had this coursemate I liked; this guy possessed everything I needed in a man. Then, the part that got me engrossed was finding out he was a dancer. I loved male dancers growing up ."I don't know if that thing is still there, though"," so the very first time I saw this guy, I was fascinated by his looks, then getting to know about his dancing career, "damn" I fell deep but not into the ground.

The following day, I was having a long conversation with my sister when I diverted the topic of discussion and started talking about the guy. The first statement she made was, "The course the guy is studying currently was influenced by his parents." Immediately, I became speechless; the words were coming, but how to utter them was difficult because I was still in the process of comprehending the statement.

Graduating from high can be crucial but then do you know what is even more "crucial" what to do next that is making the right career choice, I know how making the right career choice is accompanied by a lot of thinking as we analyze the various options and sometimes weigh it as well, often career choices are accompanied with passion except the choice was made by the parents.

This issue of parents making choices for their children didn't start now; it started way back when parents were picking spouses for their children, and it didn't stop there; it led to parents choosing career paths for their children. Parents are the major influential factor in the career development of a child.

The world is revolving, and it keeps changing; these are also affecting and influencing the dreams of teenagers. I prefer they choose their career path according to what they want and not what their parents want so they can live a happy and fulfilled life.

Should parents choose a career for their children? The answer is a big NO; everyone is entitled to freedom of choice, and by that, children aren't an exemption when they've gotten to the stage of making certain choices for themselves. I know parents also had certain dreams when they were younger and most of our parents failed to accomplish these dreams due to so many factors they were surrounded with. In cases like these, parents are likely to force their children into pursuing their passion and not the child's passion; it's more like they want the children to live their dreams.

Children should be given the right to choose their career path, and that doesn't mean the parents don't have a role to play when it comes to these decisions. Just like they say, "Two heads are better than one," and in this case, it's one adult head and one child's head. Imagine these two heads coming together to make a decision; that decision is going to be good, if not the best.

It is the child's heart and decision, not the parents.
