Things I Don't Buy Just Because They Are Cheap Anymor

There was a time when seeing something at a cheap price was enough to make me interested in buying it. I would start thinking about how much I was saving without really asking myself if I needed the thing in the first place.

With time, I started looking at it differently.

Sometimes, you buy something because the price is good, only to discover that you barely use it. Other times, you buy a cheaper version of something and end up spending more money replacing it later. When you think about it, the money you thought you saved wasn't really saved.

I've also noticed that small expenses can be easy to ignore. You might not think much about spending a little money here and there, especially when each amount looks insignificant on its own. But when you look back at the end of the week, you may realise that those little purchases have taken more money than you expected.

I'm not saying that buying cheap things is bad. There are things you can get at a good price that serve you perfectly well. There's no point spending more money just to impress people when a less expensive option does the job.

For me, the important thing is knowing the difference between something that is affordable and something that is actually worth buying.

I think this matters even more when money is not coming in as regularly as you would like. You have to think about what you need now, what can wait, and what you can comfortably do without. Not every good offer is an opportunity you must take.

I'm still learning how to make better decisions with money, and I don't always get it right. Sometimes, you only realise a purchase wasn't necessary after you've made it. At least, you can learn from it and make a different decision next time.

I'm curious about something, though.

Have you ever bought something simply because it was cheap, only to regret it later? Or have you found a way to stop yourself from spending money on things you don't really need?
