SURVIVAL OF THE STRONG

(edited)

School life was very hard for me, if there was one thing I really wished I had, it was a smooth school life. Those were some of the hardest days in my life. I can still remember it like yesterday, although it did not start with hardship, most of my time however turned out to become hard. I remember being a first class student from my first year up until my third year, and that was because my parents were sponsoring my education at that time so I had little to worry about. Even though I was doing some side jobs in between, it was just to make extra cash. Menh I really miss those times when my problem wasn’t my own to bear.

I could call my parents when bills came up in school, I had feeding allowances and there was technically nothing I lacked. But after my dad’s business closed down, things changed. At first I had to drop out. At that time I learned skills and got a job so I could save up for school again. Going back to school I had to look for a job to support me. It is normally hard getting a job in Nigeria talkless when you are a student. I was doing a job that was paying 10,000 naira salary a month and that was what I used to get my textbooks.

It was very hard paying my fees, I had to forget about 1st class and just focus on passing. I missed lots of classes because I was always looking for projects that could earn me money or helping those in class do their assignments to save up my school fees. Eating was usually when my best friend comes with food, if she didn’t I could go days without food. Menh it was a real struggle that period, I am happy it is all over now.
