A Dream Unfulfilled

As humans, we all dream of one thing or the other. Now, I'm not talking about a dream in the literal sense, which I presume we know. This is about the yearning or desire to come into a reality that's a to be. I doubt if it can be said that no human has dreamed of achieving something. The very fact that we desire it and have it in mind makes it already a dream. What remains is the intentionality to follow up, until the desired result is achieved.

Even though dreams are free, to make it a reality comes with a fee. And that could be the basic reason for many dreams not coming to actualisation. I say this could be the basic reason, but other reasons could also contribute. This could be due to a lack of planning towards it, no necessary action being taken, a lack of zeal to continue pushing till the result comes or even discouragement from many. Also, we can't neglect the fact that bringing some of these dreams to life can look impossible.

I had dreams, even as a boy. The common fact that many of us said we wanted to be pilots, doctors, lawyers, engineers and so on, while we were small was proof of our dreams at that early age. The child can also dream. Growing up and later getting admission into a higher institution, I had a dream beyond academic excellence and success. This was to venture into entrepreneurship and to see myself establish a business or something that would earn me some income while in school.

From my early days in school, I began to put effort towards that. With time, one came to mind, after due consideration. However, it didn't come to life. What were the reasons? I could say capital was the issue, but not really. Before I made the effort to start it, I had to make some survey and analysis of the venture, and how to go about it, after which I consulted a respected person around me for advice on what I wished to embark on. We considered the possibilities, the pros and cons and more.

From what I gathered, it seemed like it would take time to possibly yield a profit, plus the fact that it would take me through some processes to get the required materials and then the manpower to trust with such. From our conversations and considerations, I had to drop the idea. Funny enough, I discovered in my last that a friend of mine went into that very venture. Perhaps, he had a better way and chances, but he did it. I could only imagine then if maybe I had just pushed ahead.

Well, it wasn't really about fear or discouragement or something like that. My mind was also exploring other possibilities. But as the levels in school progressed, demands grew and responsibilities were bestowed upon me. Somehow, I wasn't looking into that again. More so, school was taking the financial resources I had, and the will to bring that dream to life slowly faded. One thing I'm grateful for though is that I was able to learn some digital skills along the way that serve me today. That dream wasn't actualised, but something else was achieved.
