Hello Hello to all Hivians and indeed anyone reading this.
Today I shall be telling you a wee story about a Rook and as you probably guessed from the post title and Burker King.
Before we proceed I hasten to add that we are not talking about the chess piece but rather the feathered variety!
The pictures in this post were all taken on May 7th 2025. Three pictures were used to make the lead image for this post on Canva.
One sunny day a couple of weeks ago I was out enjoying the sunshine and popped in to a bar to enjoy a pint of beer.
Being such a glorious day I sat outside and viewed the scenery.
As I was watching the world go by I spied someone on the road, well it was the rook below.
Can you see the red on the right side of the photograph?
Well he was heading that way to investigate!
First though was checking the ground, perhaps he was seeing if there were worms!
Rooks have very good memories and will bury food – a behaviour known as ‘caching’ – then return later to retrieve their snack.
Thanks to the RSPB Rooks page for that fun wee fact!
So perhaps he was seeing if this was a suitable place to bury his Burger King haul!
He got back to the job in hand and carried on...
I had to zoom in to see what was going on.
But they were red chip boxes I think from Burger King. Where we were sitting is not far from a retail park which has a Burger King.
Bloody litter louts, just put your trash in a bin!
I had noticed a change in the rook's behaviour.
So looking across the road to see what he was looking at..I saw ...
Yes it was our friendly ginger pussy cat, who was not interested in the rook.
Making one more check to make sure the cat was not a threat.
So he got stuck right in, I don't know if there was much in there apart from the chip ends, but he was having fun!
It was fun watching him as he was intent on getting all the goodies from those Burger King fries boxes!
This post though, is an entry for this week's Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 219 hosted by the wonderful @nelinoeva in the fantastic Feathered Friends community on Hive.
A wee action shot
I like this was as not only does it show his feathered ‘pantaloons’ on his legs which rooks are famous for, but also his beak open and getting ready to grab those Burger King crumbs.
What do you think? Was that your favourite?

That rook scored some Burger King, very well done on his part. Amazing how some birds are intelligent enough to hide caches of food for future us. Ravens too are pretty smart, and can even recognize individual people. That was a fun series of pictures, what a great story!
The whole corvid family are a smart set of birds. There is a girl on youtube who trains ravens, she is awesome what they do!
Feisty bird! All of our Burger Kings have shut down around where I live.
Have they really, they always played second fiddle to McDonalds over here.
Yeah that is the same here. There are still some open, but I think the two near us were owned by the same franchisee and they went under.

Thanks Mick, yeah it seems to be a problem everywhere with them littering their fastfood packaging everywhere.
The rook had a lot of fun picking some foods 😁. The same goes with you while watching it😛
Hehe I had lots of fun, I always do 🤣
Thank you so much :)
The first cold one of the day always hits the spot that top ups can never match. That big rook has no culinary taste, burger king! Give me a macees any day, anytime, anyplace for top notch food.
The first like you say hits that sweet spot!
Hehe I had a Five Guys burger a couple of months ago, that was awesome.
5 guys , hmm, I dont like their skin on fries and they are fuckung expensive!

Cold beer, what a treat on a sunny day. And a chance to see the bird discover the chips. Lucky he was able to cross the road and take the time to see what the red boxes had and watch out for the cat. Beautiful photos my friend @tengolotodo. Have a nice weekend.🤗🥰
Thank you @mamani, it was a fun treat and a fun day.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend :)
The rook was curious. It just wants to taste that human-made foodie in the red thing. Good for you, rook!
Hehe I will give him some proper nutritious food if I see him again :)
That's a good idea. hehe
If the rook tosses the chip's box in the air, that would be so funny as the rook now becomes a king. hahah
did you notice how the pattern on the box could resemble the king's crown?

Yeah when I saw his beak open, I was hoping he would throw it up just like a King Eka!
hehe I know that crown!
That would be a good image for a Burger King ad: “Even the birds prefer our fries”. hahaha. I would have kept an eye out for the cat too. Excellent images and you picked the best one. Bird hug, Ed
jaja the would be the slogan and ad! You and your words Nancy are always wonderful!
Thank you, here is a big bird hug and enjoy your weekend Nancy :)
The last one was really cute. A took to the king... really nice and chessy 😂
lol nice and chessy, I had to read that twice as I thought you said classy!
At least litter bugs give these awesome birds the occasional afternoon meal😂😂
lol well that is one way to look at it.
