Then and Now SBC11

Hello Hello to all Hivians, Silver Bloggers and anyone else reading this.

This week's The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt 11 is ....

Tell us about your best friend from childhood.

How did you meet your best or a special friend in your childhood? Are you still in touch?
Use your own photos if possible.?

Way back when in Norn Ireland

When I was a wee bairn I did grow up in Northern Ireland until I was 5.

We lived next door to a family similar ages to us. Their oldest child was a wee boy like me. We would go wandering round Lurgan where we lived together.

image.png

Unfortunately due to The Troubles my father was forced to move back to Scotland.

We used to play at Lurgan Park.

image.png

It may well have been where I got my love of swans and ducks.

It was also a place our mothers were a bit paranoid about lol.

Don't got swimming Edward and C I remember hearing!

He was some boy though, and would knock on our front door when he wanted to go out playing. The only problem was that he could not pronounce Edward properly.

image.png

So he would say ...

Can Abed come out to play!

To this day Mrs T loves to bring up when she is in teasing mode!

Of course over time we lost touch. Our parents would exchange the annual Christmas cards but that stopped once they passed away.

The daft bastard

image.png

At school in Edinburgh I had a few friends from where we lived and a few from the school itself. But once I moved into boarding school my best friend came from Fife. From Anstruther in fact. It was quite handy, as sometimes his parents would take him for the weekend and I would catch a life to go see my grandma in the next village along Pittenween.

image.png

R was a bit of a nutter. Whilst I was sporty he was more musical and I got to learn a lot of bands from him.

We both smoke and drank and got in a heap of trouble, but hey it is all growing up. I left Edinburgh when I was 15 to move to Orkney and we lost touch.

When I went to Uni in Edinburgh I did hear that he was living in Edinburgh.

I was about to meet him, when I found the daft bastard had died of a heroin overdose. That was when Edinburgh was the undisputed European heroin capital!

image.png

At uni in Edinburgh I shared flats and bedsits with my best friend Chris.

He was from Kirkcaldy where I live now, and when I saw this double rainbow this evening I took it as a sign that I need to write this tonight.

image.png

He loved pizza and even tried to get me to like his favourite ham and pineapple lol

image.png

So when I saw the rainbow and Papa Johns I said yep gonna do the post today.

He was a great guy and studied Computer Science. He ended up joining the navy and become a helicopter pilot.

He then Bristows a helicopter company and would fly choppers out to oil rigs.

One summer when I was working in Africa we agreed to goto a football tournament with a few other friends.

As it turned out some others in his company wanted to go and Chris being the nice guy let them.

They went on holiday and watched the football whilst he went to work and flew oil workers to and from oil platforms.

When I return back to Africa from the football I realised that he was on of the pilots killed in a crash.

That is perhaps my one regret in life, that I hadn't forced him to come with us to the football and not be the nice guy for once.

image.png

We only live a couple minutes walk from where his parents live and whenever I goto the park to feed the swans I often think of him and our antics.

I think the Universe delivered the rainbows as a sign that all is okay with them up there.

What about you? How did you meet your best or a special friend in your childhood? Are you still in touch??

I see that you have had great friends and some of them have already passed away, for various reasons, but I am glad to know that you remember them all with affection and joy.

I met @a4xjeeper in about 7th grade. He was a newcomer to our group and I wasn't all-together happy that he suddenly showed up, but we ended up becoming best friends. I still talk to him and see him frequently today.

Oh that is pretty cool, I like his jeeper description in his profile, a shame he wasn't active here.

Yeah, no, I created his profile for him. He has some money invested in the tokens here, but I manage it for him.

That's a sad story to remember. However, one cannot control one's life if they are destined to leave the world...
Anyway, the rainbow view is amazing. Is it a double rainbow? Never seen one before..

Life can be sad at times unfortunately and yes it was a double rainbow. The colours on the bottom one were amazingly clear and I will make a post on it one day

That ending was perfect, beautiful, as perfect and beautiful as true friendship and rainbows. I also had two friends who used drugs. But thank God, they managed to kick the habit. One is in France and the other in Italy. I never heard from them again. It's a shame when friends drift apart. I hope that if you and I ever drift apart, at least you'll send me a letter and a beer. Hahaha. Big hug, Ed ;)

They're gone too soon. But maybe it was destined to be. If only, but we cannot tell what tomorrow brings. Maybe they are celebrating up there that's why the double rainbow appears for you to see♥️.

Having a best friend is very heart warming and comforting. A best friend that always be there in good times and in bad times is a real gem.

Awesome story and excellent pictures! Kind of nice you still have some pictures from Ireland and the places you lived when you were younger. I sadly have none of those anymore myself. Funny how friends can come and go in life isn't it? People you see daily for years and then suddenly they just disappear. I suppose it's just life, and all of my moving didn't help out either I'm sure. Just like you I was one to move around and see the world. Even Florida, which you left out of your pictures! lol!

Great post my friend!

Gorgeous rainbow Abed Ed, I don't know when last I saw one!
Sad about your 2 friends, but I do believe they are more than just ok up there!
Lovely response to Chronicles ❤️
