It has been a custom of mine to pick up an orchid just before or after Valentine's Day.
I do love a bargain and this week, opportunity came a knocking!
I had a busy day on Thursday offline and the weather was glorious.
I had an appointment at the Doctor's surgery in the morning and on the way home, I just popped into to our local mini supermarket to see if they had any whoopsies.
I managed to pick up some half price chocolate eclairs and went to pay.
As much as I like technology, I am not a fan of self serve.
I was brought up with the personal touch, and for me that means paying and checking out with a real person!
As I was waiting I saw this gorgeous blue orchid. Truth be told, I have been eyeing it up.
The normal price is £12, which I think is a fair price as it includes a cute ceramic pot.
I stopped give Mrs T flowers many many years ago. She does not like them fading wilting and dying! Rather she wants a plant as it can grow and live on longer than a few weeks.
We have moved a fair few times over the years, and we have often donated our jungles to friends.
👀Did you see the price?
£12 discounted down to £7.92. It needs some tlc but will be back up in no time.
You might also see on the label "Dyed Orchid" well it was not dying on my patch!
His name?
I call him Bluey!
Fluffed if I know if he is a boy or girl, but he is the type that we get get each year, I think the name is Phalaenopsis Orchid Blue Special, that site does say the common name is Whale watching! I wonder if our resident Silver Blogger orchid expert @bdmillergallery Silver Shadow would concur about the name.
I walk or take public transport everywhere now, so off Bluey I went for the walk home!
As I said the weather was a beautiful winter's day in January, the sun was shining and initially there was no wind.
Bluey and the pot were a good 20 inches tall and I was walking the ten minute jaunt back home with him caressed in my arms. Then the wind started to say hello, and the plastic covering was howling.
But with stealth and some trepidation Bluey and I made it home unscathed!
Whilst at home, I received a phone call from the woman at the hospital who is in charge of my biological case, to let me know that she was presenting my case before the hospital board on Friday!
Me took that is a piece of positive news and decided to go back out and purchase a can or two of beer.
This I duly did and wrote about it here BrewDog Scottish Black Heart Beer
Well it is Valentine's Month after all, so the more hearts the better, it does not matter the colour.
I was in such a good mood that I positively flew up murder hill.
The clouds had gone and the sky was blue and I decided on a wee detour and to go visit our viaduct that is a hop skip and a jump from our house.
It is in a dip (no not in crypto but in the ground) and you can still see frost on the ground. This was around 11.33 am.
I was going to include it here, but heck no that can be Wednesday's walking post on worldmappin I think!
The footy is on and I fancy catching the mighty Rangers!
Ah well, don't forget to do something nice for someone today. It is the little things that often puts the biggest smile on someone's face!
I hope you Just Do It and submit an entry for one or both competitions!
All images and ramblings are from me, the mad Scotsman TengoLoTodo unless otherwise stated.

Thank you for that uplifting post. Bluey is beautiful and I love a bargain also.
I often buy withering flowers and house plants; they are cheaper and give me the challenge of returning them to health.
Good stuff!
Yes!! We do too, just can't bear seeing withering plants being left to well wither away!
Bargains are great.
Thank you for your kind words about Bluey 💙
peace my friend, have a great day
Nice deal of Bluey! I hope the biologic is working well for you, and that the inflammation is doing better!
Yeah Bluey was a bargain. The biologic, I am still waiting to hear. The meeting was on Friday, and here with the National Health Service being free, they don't always give everything to everyone! So am still waiting to hear.
Although the orchid is the national flower of Venezuela, in my city there are very few of them, because here the climate is “powerfully sunny” and orchids grow in another type of climate. As Valentine's Day is a whole month, you have to give something every day to Mrs. T. You tell me about the orchid and I see the prices of Whisky. jajajaja. How much is Johnnie Walker Blue Label over there? A walker's hug!
Oh an orchid is! So you would be wishing a yellow orchid then.
I think there are so many types of orchids that you would get some types there.
As for Johnnie Walker, funnily enough when I worked overseas, in so many countries the most common drink after beer was Johnnie Walker and coke!
I never drink it and would rather have a good single malt.
It seems that a 70cl bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label would cost around £170 pounds or $210.
A blue hug coming your way!
You found a great bargain with "Bluey" and I'm sure she will thrive under your care. ♥
Yes Bluey is pretty and she looks healthier already!
Bluey is a beauty🥹
You got that right Tessa, Are you a plant lover?
Yes I am!
I need a Bluey in my life, Super Ed. 💙
And I love the second to last photo, it looks like a painting.
Hehe we all need a Bluey I think Super Eli 💙
You know when I was selecting which photos to include, I did get that feeling too!
See great minds think alike Super Eli..
Talking of painting, we are doing some painting thing on Valentine's Day , will keep you posted!
💙💙
Speaking of painting, we're going to paint something on Valentine's Day, we'll keep you posted!
I'm intrigued to know what is that painting thing youl'll do for Valentine's Day ;)
I'm back home, I don't know for how many weeks I'll be here hehe and trying to catch up here and there.
I always look for bargains. It's worth buying.😌. You pass through the murder hill with bluey in your arms? 😂. Lucky you reach your destination safe.😌
Haha Bluey was saved from murder hill. The shop where I got Bluey is in the other direction, and it is all flat! But yes going up murder hill with Bluey is not so much fun, I did it last year with another orchid..
A lovely touch from you to Mrs. T before Valentine's Day.
Walking is good. Have a lovely week.🤗
Thanks mamani and I hope you are having a great week so far. Walking is great for all of us, and yes you can't go wrong getting a plant close to Valentine's Day.
Murder Hill? I laugh when I translate because sometimes I get texts that I don't think are real.
I agree with Mrs. T, it's better to have a living plant that will be kept and will talk about it and what it meant at the time.
That orchid is beautiful. Happy month of love and friendship.
Hehe I think you translate it correctly...."Colina..del..asesinato" I call it murder hill because when you walk back up it carrying heavy bags of groceries, it feels like murder!
Yes living plants beat flowers in my opinion too :)
Thank you and I wish you a beautiful month too :)
