The SB Chronicles #14 - The Unforgettable Character

Greetings dear hiveans and community members. Here we are, With yet another interesting prompt, in Silverbloggers

^Who is a character from your life you'll never forget*?

Some people come and go like a wind, in our life, leaving memories behind. One such personality was my grandfather, who left for his abode journey, while doing my higher studies in late 1980's

We used to hardly meet, probably because we were living in two different states. The only gathering was during the summer vacation when our school closes down for 2 months.

Quite a tall personality with slim body and dark complexion, I always see him seated in the rocking chair. Blessed with eight children and my father being 3rd among them, he took great care of each and every one. I remember him keeping a long face with no smile. This attitude sometimes scared me.

As they had their own coconut farm, our house was always occupied with workers either for cracking the coconut or for taking them to the market. Our two month vacation was full of hustle and bustle, with people moving around until sunset. From Coconut the coir is removed and coir ropes were made out of it. It is a long process. Their were rope weaving machines too, out of which ropes were made out. And for this nearly 8 to 10 ladies were employed.

With his one command, my grandfather used to get the work done on time in order to export the coir. During work he made sure to apply the rule - talk less, work more.

I remember father telling us, how strict he was. And they were punished for silly reasons. In 60's though he wasn't educated, he made sure his children were educated. Any complaints from school, they were canned.

He is not much educated but calculates money in mind. He was so perfect in calculation and the same I could see in my father. Not only in calculation but perfection in whatever he does. So then and their, even we were questioned, if anything goes wrong.

Though my grandpa was strict with his children, his face would lighten up on seeing we grandchildren. He used to buy things and accumulate. Each time we go, we were spoilt with sweets and other interesting things. On our return joirney we used to carry all this, back home

So that was he. I miss him a lot. This was the story of my 1960's grandparents.

Photos captured are my own from my photog gallery. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of my grandpa.

Thanks a lot for stopping by.
