Those who romanticize war definitely portray the wrong message to the youth. Bare facts, reasoning devastation to young something that should be taught in school curriculum not watered down either.

it's tough to know when to expose kids to some of those hard realities. My sister and I had a long discussion over letting them watch the movie.
We finally decided that we'd do so but only if one of us was present and the kids were told if it got too hard to watch we'd turn it off. That opened the door for them to ask questions. They knew what was being shown had happened.
My niece watched and was very thoughtful about it. My nephew decided not to watch.
We had the same discussions around the first Iraq war and the live coverage of it. We came to the same conclusion, we'd let them watch but with one of us present.
My niece made an observation about civilians being hurt, killed and losing their homes. In the course of discussion I made the comment 'those things happen in war' and went on with some other points.
As we watched the footage of a SCUD missile sent towards Israel, I made the comment, "Good God, I can't imagine watching that coming at me." ... a little voice from across the room said, "those things happen in war Auntie". Nothing like your own words mirrored back to you.
