Happy Cinco de Mayo, my frens… 🐸
It’s that time of year again. The sun hits a little different, the vibes get a little louder, and suddenly everyone’s got a lime in one hand and a story in the other. You can feel it in the air. A whole mood.
Now, let’s get one thing straight, fren: Cinco de Mayo isn’t Mexican Independence Day. Yeah, I know… wild. That’s actually in September. Cinco de Mayo is about the Battle of Puebla in 1862, when a smaller, scrappier Mexican force pulled off a surprise win against the French army. Underdog energy. Absolute classic.
And honestly? That’s why it hits.
Because deep down, Cinco de Mayo is about that feeling. You know the one. When the odds are stacked. When things look kinda doomed, but you still show up. You still try. You still fight. And somehow… you WIN.
Big Pepe energy.
But then, somewhere along the timeline, especially in the U.S., it evolved. It became less about the history lesson and more about a celebration of Mexican culture. The food, music, and community.
Feels a bit off, man.
Not because celebrating is bad. Celebration is good. Celebration is needed. But there’s a difference between appreciating something and consuming it without thinking. One hits the soul, the other just hits the Instagram story for 24 hours and disappears.
And Pepe sits there like:
“hmm… we can do better, frens.”
Because when you actually tap into what Cinco de Mayo represents, it’s beautiful. It’s resilience. It’s culture. It’s history that refused to get steamrolled. It’s people coming together and saying, “yeah, we’re still here, and we’re gonna celebrate that.”
So maybe this year, you still grab the tacos. You still blast the music. You still laugh with your friends as the sun goes down and the night swallow the sun, the sky, and all the light.
But maybe you also pause for like… a second.
Think about the story behind it.
Think about the people.
Think about why this moment exists at all.
And then you raise your glass. Not just for the party, but for the meaning.
Pepe smiles. 🐸

Before I could think about why this moment exists, I had to look it up.

I don't label myself as Liberal nor Conservative but I am in favor of separation of church and state.
Especially when the church in question was forced on the people.

So I thought about it, researched it, and this is what I found out.
Let's all try to respect each other and not force things on each other.
