Yesterday, my wife tells me that her boss sent her a text to remind her to wear something green when she comes in the office on Saint Patrick's Day.
Me: Oh, you wearing green underwear again?
Wife: Not today, it's not until tomorrow.
Me: Is she Catholic, Irish?
Wife: I don't know. I just feel a little uncomfortable with this office celebration.
Me: Should be interesting to see how other staff respond since most are not Christians.
Wife: Yeah, guess we'll find out tomorrow.
For background, my wife follows United Church of Canada and I was Baptized as Roman Catholic. Yeah, I know mixed marriage. I had to obtain permission from the local bishop to make it legal.
As I went to sleep last night, I decided that I would focus some thoughts as to what times would have been like during Saint Patrick's lifetime. It was a bit of a rough sleep.
This morning I decided to refresh my memory of Saint Patty. From what I remember, it was a day pass to eat during lent.
When Maewyn Succat was kidnapped into slavery around the age of 16 he was living in Roman Briton, likely Scotland or Wales and it was a time when Roman rule was ending. There was lots of fighting against pagans and within their own Christianized society.
During Saint Patty's time, Pope Innocent I strengthened papal authorities to entrench Christianity as the dominant religion over paganism and all Heretical Groups.
Now I am thinking it must have been a 2-fa-k world back then with lots of problems to solve.
Fast forward, to today, guess what, still lots of 2-fa-k problems to solve. So while you/we celebrate the good times of Saint Patrick's Day, let us not overlook the current aggression by USA and Israel against the people of Persia. Why are they killing and injuring thousands of innocent people? I am observing Christian Nationalist from USA and Zionist Jews from Israel killing Catholics in Lebanon and Muslims in Iran. Is this a fair observation?
Enjoy your day of celebration but don't forget to check back into reality. Now I understand we can all create our own reality. For me, the impact of excessive capitalism makes me think of the demise of the Roman Empire. Are we witnessing the demise of another empire? I am seeing many types of players in a game influenced by the rich and famous. So, I plan for the worst and hope for the best.

That joke about the underwear lol!
Ur a brave man. Mixed marriages can be a challenge but it sounds like u guys made it work well. St Patricks Day really is a "day pass" for most people but the religous history is deep.
I didnt know St Patrick was actually a slave in the beginning. That really changes the perspective on the "celebration." It feels like we live in a bubble sometimes and ignore the styff USA and others are doing abroad.
Your "2-fa-k world" line made me laugh cause its so accurate.
I agree about the Zionists and the aggression... its hard to watch the news lately. Appreciate the reality check about the innocent people suffering in the Middle East right now.
Hope ur wife had a decent day at the office despite the green outfit pressure!
Keep posting these deep thoughts, we need em.
