We're Halfway There!

It was a brief, but mildly exciting weekend of basketball if you have been following the college sport at all. As you may or may not know, the tournament has been going on for a couple of weeks now and this past weekend we had finally arrived at the Final Four games.

On Friday night, Texas and South Carolina both number 1 seeds in their sections of the bracket faced off against each other. Likewise, number 2 seed UConn and number 1 seed UCLA had their own battle later that night. Honestly, it wasn't much of a battle for either team. Defending champion South Carolina pretty easily beat Texas 74 to 57 to advance to the championship game.

Meanwhile, UConn absolutely hammered Big 10 newcomer UCLA 85 to 51 to cement their place in the final game of the tournament.

On Saturday things switched over to the Men's tournament as we saw 1 seed Florida take on another one seed Auburn. It was actually a really good game that stayed close through the whole thing. I was starting to bite my nails as I had Florida slated to play in the championship game. Thankfully, towards the end Florida was able to pull away slightly and secure the win over Auburn 79 to 73.

As exciting as the first game was, it didn't hold a candle to the second game between another two 1 seeds Houston and Duke.

Duke basically dominated the whole game until the last minute and a half when things started to fall apart. @mrsbozz and I had actually went to bed because we thought it was a lock that Duke was going to win. It wasn't until we woke up the next morning and saw the news that they had lost. Thankfully I had recorded the game and I was able to watch the last couple minutes to see what happened.

Sure, there may have been some questionable calls, but the fact is Duke basically coked in the final minutes of the game. Houston took advantage and ended up winning the game 70 to 67. It was definitely a thriller!

That sets the stage for Florida and Houston to face off tonight for the Championship game. Needless to say since the game doesn't start until 8:50 PM on a school night I likely won't be up to watch any of it.

Finally, back to the women's tournament. My wife and I watch with much admiration yesterday as UConn put on a virtual clinic in their 82 to 59 victory over South Carolina. I think at one point they were up by over thirty points. After the first quarter it wasn't even close.

This is the 12th national title for the coach of UConn and all of those titles have come with the Huskies. It was a lot of fun to watch even though it was a pretty lopsided victory.

I have a feeling the game tonight will be a lot closer than this one was.
