The Spring Grind
It's been a busy week for my niece. I think my wife said they have something like four games in four days this week. It all started on Monday and I think I already covered the results of that game with you. Tuesday things went a little better for them as they hammered their opponent in a run rule victory 11 to 0. In fact, my niece actually hit another home run in that game. She is the definition of beast mode!
Unfortunately, things didn't go as well for them last night. We didn't get to watch the whole game because my wife and I were headed off to a trivia night with some friends, but when we got to the location the score was 7 to 3 in favor of my nieces team.
This is her senior year, and that means there are a lot of extra things that happen this time of year. Many school districts have multiple award nights for any manner of things. It just so happens my niece was receiving some kind of award last night.
That meant she had to leave the softball game early and make her way across town with her family to get the award she had earned. Now, I am not saying the reason her team ended up blowing a 7 to 3 lead and losing the game 9 to 10 is because she wasn't there with them, but I will let you draw your own assumptions!
The fact is, she's just really good and I feel like she makes the other players on the team better just for being there with them. Her older sister was the same way when she played. They both have a confidence on the field that is infectious.
I forgot to mention that big win they had on Tuesday was against a non conference team, so although they got the win, it really doesn't help them too much. Which is pretty sad.
They are back in action again tonight, and I hope they can have a good game. They might still have a chance at doing well in the playoffs this year.
