Shamrocks Shine!

It was a pretty good Friday night for both my niece and @mrsbozz and I last weekend. Her high school basketball team came away with a win and we actually got to watch it for a change. This year has been a hit or miss whether or not we get to stream her games. The camera they use for the streaming service has been down most of the season. I guess apparently someone finally complained to the Athletic Director and they contacted the company to get it fixed.

We actually have the same system in the school district where I work, so I know quite a bit more about the in's and out's of the product than your average human. It's interesting because besides the camera which they install, and the PC it attaches to, there isn't much else to the system. As the technology department, we don't even have access to the PC. They keep it tightly under lock and key with credentials that only they know.

The only thing we can do with the system is turn it off and turn it back on again. I actually get a little annoyed when the athletics department asks me to look at it because I have told them countless times all I can do is turn it off and turn it back on. Something they could easily do themselves, I don't get paid as much as I do to flip a power switch off and on...

Occasionally, there are issues that require a little more attention. In those cases, assuming it isn't a network issue, a call needs to be placed into the company so they can either work on it remotely or send a tech out. The techs are usually sub-contractors who have not much more knowledge of the system than we do. It's often a bit comical to see them come out and try to figure things out.

95% of the time though, a power cycle fixes the issue.

It would be pretty disappointing to find out that we were paying for a service all season that we couldn't take advantage of because someone didn't bother to push a power button. But I digress...

As I said, my niece had a good night. The lady Shamrocks won the game 60 to 53, which is quite good for a team who has seen their share of struggles this season. With a record of 7-10, they are a bit behind the mark, but they have six more games this season to make up for it. I should point out that their opponent on last Friday night has a record of 11-8, so this was a pretty big win for the ladies.

The team they play tonight also has a record of 11-8, so we will see how that goes. This Friday is senior night and although @mrsbozz and I were supposed to be down in Ohio to watch that game in person, we have to take our other niece to a volleyball tournament on Saturday.

The good news is, no matter how they finish this season, pretty much every school gets to at least play one playoff game due to how things are set up. They might have a chance to see some late season miracles. As I have said before, I don't think my niece cares either way. She is probably just ready for it to be softball season. She enjoys basketball, but her heart is with softball.
