Same Old Lions...

I've honestly been dreading writing this post since late Saturday night. It became pretty evident pretty early on that the Lions were going to totally screw the pooch in their NFC playoff game against the Washington Commanders. Please understand, I don't mean any of what you will read in this post as a slight to the Commanders. They were the better team. The Lions got out played and out coached. No question about it.

It's actually probably pretty easy for you to pick out the die hard Lions fans from the ones who only recently jumped on the bandwagon. Those fresh new faces are going to be shocked and outraged about the events of this weekend. They will point to that horrendous hit on Goff and cry about how a hit like that on Mahomes would have gotten someone ejected. While I don't necessarily disagree with that last bit, at the end of the day, the fact is, the Lions choked.

Take away the multiple turnovers and Goff probably wouldn't have been in that position in the first place.

I've actually never been much of a Goff fan. Sure, he puts up some big numbers from time to time, but realistically, when the trade was made between us and the Rams, I felt like we were trading away a one dimensional quarterback for another one dimensional quarterback.

Same song, different name. Same old Lions...

Goff threw four interceptions IN A DOME! It's not like he was playing in the conditions of the LA/Philly game or the Baltimore/Buffalo game. This Lions team actually reminds me a lot of the Tigers team we had back in the day with Maglio, Miggy, Verlander, Scherzer, and the rest. They had so much talent, but they just couldn't convert.

Sure, the defensive injuries have taken a toll on the Lions. We have seen that the second half of the season. It basically became a matter of who could score the most in their latter games, not which team was the better team. This is definitely a disappointing end to what should have been a great season. I just hope the Lions coaching staff can fill the gaps and fix the holes that have plagued them most of the year.

These aren't new issues, they just didn't matter as much when the offense was scoring so much.

Meanwhile, Houston fell short against Kansas City 24 to 14 sending the Chiefs to the AFC championship. I still don't feel like KC is that good of a team. I just hope Buffalo can knock them out next weekend.

Speaking of Buffalo, they had a snowy evening last night, but they managed to come out on top of Baltimore 27 to 25.

The 45 to 31 beating of the Lions by Washington we already discussed, but the early game on Sunday had Philadelphia beating the Rams 28 to 22 in another snowy match up. It was pretty crazy to see the players scramble around in the snow.

At this point, I don't really care who wins as long as it isn't the Chiefs. I'm cheering for pretty much anyone but them. Even the Commanders. Hat's off to them and their rookie quarterback.

That snow filled game was a crazy one and that is a great way to have home field advantage I guess when your opponents are coming from a place where it is never even cold enough to ever snow.

The Lions choking was heart-breaking but I am always pessimistic about them. I don't believe in curses but Detroit seems cursed. 4 TO's, one for a pick-6... you can't really recover from that. Their running game was strong but Goff really screwed the pooch on that when it mattered most. It's a shame, because I really wanted a KC/Detroit matchup! Will BUffalo be able to knock out the Chiefs? I would imagine they are favored in that as far as the bookies are concerned seeing as how they already did it once this season.
