Dragons Start Hot in Tennessee

It was heck of a weekend for the Tiffin Dragons softball team as they headed over and down to Tennessee for their first games of the season. You might recall I was talking last weekend about how they had a series of four games this past weekend between two different teams to get their 2025 season started.

It was a bit weird following along with the team given the fact that my niece isn't playing this year, but it's something I still plan on doing because at least for right now, she is still a Dragon. I have to wonder how much that might change in the future though. Being a new mom, she has new priorities in her life and it will be interesting to see if she chooses to continue playing after this year off.

I'm proud of her and support her no matter what she picks. It's definitely going to be a tough decision. Even if she decides to not continue, I don't think it will be the last time she steps foot on a softball field. I could definitely see her coaching one day, especially when her little nugget gets old enough to play.

The Dragon bats were hot this weekend pulling out to an early lead in pretty much all of their games. They started off on Saturday around 2 PM against Emory and Henry University. I've never heard of this school before, have you? Tiffin ended up run ruling them in five innings instead of the traditional seven and came away with a 13 to 5 victory.

Their second game on Saturday was at 4 PM against Lincoln Memorial University. I've honestly never heard of this school before either, but the name makes a bit more sense to me than Emory and Henry.

This game was a little closer, but they ended up snagging the win 5 to 1 over Lincoln Memorial. The softball team has a tradition where if they get a sweep on their games during the day, the coach takes them out for ice cream that evening. I saw some photos on their social media of the ladies celebrating at the local Dairy Queen. I won't share them here though since they weren't my photos.

As I said before, Sunday they played the same two teams, they just played them a little earlier in the day. Instead of 2 and 4, the games were at 10 and 12. I'm guessing so Tiffin could get on the road back home to Northern Ohio.

They started the day off strong again putting up 8 runs against Emory and Henry early on. Unfortunately, E&H were able to claw their way back and they made it a pretty close game with Tiffin holding on for the win 10 to 8.

Finally, their last game of the weekend was against Lincoln Memorial again. They took a tough 9 to 2 loss against the Lincoln team who must have been holding their ace for the second game of the weekend. I actually wouldn't be surprised if the two teams that Tiffin faced played each other as well.

The Dragons have a bit of a break now before they are back in action at the end of the month.
