A Weekend Without Football

Holy crap, it's that time of year! Softball is back baby! Between Fall and Spring, these really are two of my favorite times of year as far as sports are concerned. In the Fall you have college football and volleyball at the college level. In the Spring you have college basketball finishing up and then softball season kicking into high gear. It really is a beautiful time of year.

I was sitting at home last night watching the Clemson/Auburn game from the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational down in Florida and I was surprised to find that Auburn already has five games under their belt this season. The win over Clemson last night makes it six now. They are 6-0 on the season.

I guess that really shouldn't be too surprising to me. My nieces Tiffin Dragons have four games on the books so far this season, so a team having six probably isn't that unbelievable.

If you have never watched softball before, I highly encourage you to do so. If you are worried that it might be too much like baseball and you find baseball boring, I still think you should give it a shot. It has a little faster pace in my opinion and honestly, I just think the ladies are more exciting to watch than the guys.

Michigan State has a big basketball game this weekend down in Champagne/Urbana Illinois against Illinois. They really need to get a win here otherwise they are going to slide even further down the rankings. They also need some momentum behind them before the face off against U of M for the instate rivalry in a little bit here. That's one game they can't afford to lose in my opinion.

It's kind of sad, because what looked like a team that could make a deep playoff run is now starting to falter a bit and you wonder if they are going to get knocked out in the first round again as they have in the past.

Football is now a thing of the past, so if you were hoping for that this weekend you are going to be quite sad. Although there is that new league that is starting sometime soon. I can't remember what it is called, but it might be worth flipping that on for a couple of hours on the weekend. I don't know, you tell me. Is it worth it?

Personally, besides going to my nieces basketball game tonight, I am going to enjoy a little bit of downtime with football being over. Sure, I still have a lot of basketball to keep up with, but I suddenly feel like my weekends are a little more free. Even though they probably really aren't.

What are you going to do with your free time now that football is over?
