I don't think genuine female friendship is rare because women are inherently bad at it. I think it's rare because we were taught to expect it to fail, and expectation is a self-fulfilling kind of gravity. The women who've stayed in my life are the ones who decided, at some point, not to obey that gravity... who chose intentional honesty over easy comfort, and stuck around long enough to prove the old belief wrong, one ordinary Tuesday at a time...
