RE: Finding a Unicorn Doctor

In my region of Canada we simply don't have enough women G.P.s at the front lines, most go into specialties or move south to the US to work and that is a part of a long termed structural staffing problem here. I'm glad you found a GP that is willing to take your case seriously.

Female doctors are also very misogynistic not quite as overt as the men. Medical misogyny is both systemic and individual. It;s still taught in med schools here, but it's subtle (sometimes). The doctor I am seeing right now is a man. He's also not a GP he's an immunologist. He is excellent. But he is in fact a unicorn. Its a little infuriating that in a little over an hour we already ahd a treatment plan because he listens. Yet it's been over 30 years of me trying to find one doctor willing to truly help me. I have never experienced this before with any doctor. Not like this. Side note: My GP is ok, better than most. he doesn't know how to treat patients like me but he at least admits it and doesn't gaslight me. I respect that. !BBH !HUG !PIZZA
