November is a month associated with quietness and decay. This gloomy month makes everything feel still and lifeless. In such weather, a small family gathering can be a glimmer of hope and happiness.
Last night, as I was feeling the sadness of November, a message suddenly popped up in my family group. I smiled at my phone even before I realized. It was not just an invitation to a get-together but an invitation to a happy start to the month. I am usually the type of person who doesn’t like family gatherings, but this message made me happy. I was so happy to meet my family, especially my grandparents and cousins.
Although our houses are not far apart, our busy routines had made it difficult for us to meet. I took my essentials and went straight to my grandparents’ home with my parents. We planned to have a barbecue there. After meeting my grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles, I realized how important this reunion was. We also made a rule to keep it special: “no mobile phones unless it is very important.” It helped us spend quality time with each other.
Our grandparents told us their old stories and life experiences. While telling them, they went through a mix of laughter and tears. They laughed one moment, and tears fell from their eyes the next. I was not sure what they were feeling. Maybe they missed their bright, youthful days.
After listening to their stories, we all moved to the courtyard and started preparing the barbecue. We lit the coals, got the chicken ready, and started grilling. It was unexpectedly one of the most memorable times of my life. I wished that golden hour would stop right there because I didn’t want to go back to my boring routine.
We grilled the meat and talked and laughed together. As the night grew darker, the coals slowly faded. We all sat close together. It felt warm, even though the fire was dying. The cold of November was still outside, but it did not feel heavy anymore. That night taught me that even a simple moment can become the most precious time of my life. Happiness does not always come from big celebrations. Sometimes it comes from old stories, shared food, and the people we love.
I went home with a happy heart. I promised myself that I would not wait for a message in the family group to meet them again. Even in the gloomiest month, a little light is enough.
