From what I've seen the reality is more, "Fake it until you're broke." happens far more often. Since becoming financially literate I went with a 25 year plan in a steady, disciplined, consistent and methodical approach to being successful slowly and without fanfare. I did have a few lucky breaks too.
I hope you can achieve your vision of success, it starts with a goal.
