RE: Controversy is the mother of engagement..

I've known wealthy people, or people of social standing, who end up taking small liberties that eventually turn into big risks. They tend to think that they can't lose, until they do. Wealth and status provides them a sense that they can't lose. That is until they cross the line. Those same people quickly get shunned or lose a large portion of their wealth.

Obviously, this is not ubiquitous. There are some who remain humble and principled. But they don't tend to seek social status to begin with. They tend to their business and families quietly and out of sight.

There are these, and there are those you described in the first paragraph. I think this is why some wealthy people try to protect their wealth, because they understand it'll be crazy to actually lose their position, I mean lose their wealth.

Don't you think this is the very reason why some rich people want exclusive right to continue to make wealth alone?

Sure, there are some. It's a complex thing I suppose. Some people achieve success and wealth despite their poor behavior, and they know it. They know that they can easily lose it and go to great lengths to protect what they built.
Yet there are others who are confident and know they can rebuild. They don't worry about what others do.
It's a big world.
