A scorching HPUD - July 2025

We've got a massive heatwave here in the UK - it's so hot I almost missed Hive Power Up Day. Almost.... but not quite :D

But this will be a super-brief post (at least by my standards....) because typing when the keyboard is gradually getting more and more slimy with sweat and my hands are so sticky they're glued to the desk isn't a massively pleasant experience. Due to the extreme heat I officially declared today to be "Go to work in your underpants day".

So the important thing is... I powered up 50HP.

Looking at June as a whole, it was a month where I didn't do as much on Hive as usual. Mostly it's just because in summer there's usually a lot going on to distract me !

As a result, my HP earnings were down. I earned 131 HP, which is a lot less than most months. But there is definitely a pattern that when the HIVE price drops as low as it has, quite a few people drift away or don't bother to curate as much, so earnings per post are significantly down.

As much as anything, it's their loss. Growing HP when the price is low will pay dividends if the price ever comes back up again - although my personal feeling is that price is likely to bob along at around this level for at least the short and middle term.

The real driver of my Hive earnings is HBD. I was a couple of days late in claiming the interest, so it was 37.024 HBD. If I'd claimed it on day 30 as I normally do, it would have been around 33.4 HBD - gradually getting closer to my goal of 40 HBD interest a month.

Once I get to the 40HBD interest, my plan is to take about 50% of the interest out each month. That way, the capital still grows, but it reclaims some of the fiat I've invested.

The key thing for me is to move it into assets that aren't priced in US dollars. So far this year, the dollar has crashed from 1.24 to 1.37 per pound sterling. That means my HBD, HIVE and other dollar-priced assets have lost 9.5% of their value.

It would be tempting to buy more HBD with any fiat I could scrape together, but I don't see the dollar crash reversing, so I'm going to start looking for assets that hold their value - either commodities, or things priced in RNB or RUB seem like good options. The Gulf States currencies are nominally the strongest right now, but they're a bit too vulnerable to geopolitical surprises for my tate.

So that's where I am right now..... melting ! Normal service will be resumed when normal temperatures are.....
