RE: Anime Review: Sword Art Online

I don't know if I should consider it "an underrated anime," but many of us who have been in the anime industry for a while already know its story. Yes, Sword Art Online revolutionized this small subgenre of adventure linked to science fiction and action. Since then, similar works of virtual worlds in the pure MMORPG style have been broadcast and adapted. However, as revolutionary as it was, the way the story was executed in subsequent seasons ruined many of the things that were initially good about the show.

Not counting the unnecessary fan service, there are those explicit scenes of violence against female characters. This happens not just once, but up to two or three times throughout the entire anime. Scenes that simply weren't necessary and are only there for who knows what, really. The last few seasons managed to improve some of the flaws it had, but in the end it ended in a rather dubious way. On the other hand, there's also the romance aspect, which honestly isn't all that well done either.

Yes, the relationship Kirito develops with Asuna at the beginning is very nice, and everything, But then in the following seasons there is no sign that there is anything, even and they talk to each other and are only seen together with the rest of the team who are mostly girls. And they're all constantly fighting over who deserves to be with the main character, which doesn't help a relationship move forward or move anywhere.

Well, SAO has a lot of good things, yes, but it also has a lot of bad things, in my opinion. Personally, of all this BOOM of anime that came out of this style, the only one that I liked the most of all is Sangri-La Frontier, which revolutionized the way of telling an adventure and action story for true video game fans.

Good post.

Hello there, Natto. It is evident that you have been a fan of the anime world wayyy before me and I really respect you for that. I wonder why I just discovered SAO many years after others have seen it. Well, I guess it is better late than never.

I’ll check Sangri- La Frontier out.

Thanks for stopping by, friend.🫂❤️
