#BeerSaturday week 303 - #SublimeSunday Beers

zHops1.jpg

A painting project I was voluntold to do might have pushed this #beersaturday clear into #sublimesunday. What a power move to combine 2 of the most active and supportive tags in one post!

Beer blogging comes naturally to me due to years spent brewing for myself and restaurants, working with breweries on their technology & marketing, and the decades spent imbibing. Hence, the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist doing my best to consume, report and even brew to do that title justice.

This week, I take the opportunity to drop my current Top 3 beers as I often refer to it and often get asked which beers hold the top spots at the moment.

#SublimeSunday Pint O' th' Week

IMG_7033.jpg

For the occasion of welcoming the #SublimeSunday crew to #beersaturday, I am sharing one of the local shorties I have in the fridge which are, in fact, great painting fuel. With having to paint the new office, which is conveniently right across the street from a brewery, my family was sure I would just keep going and paint the kitchen at home. Once you get me up, I will likely complete the job, as long as there is https:/blackswanbrewing.ca limited edition IPA. Turns out the owner of the brewery might have one too and sent "Cheers buddy. I may have had one of those myself. Appreciate it."

IMG_7027.jpg

Between painting and Dogwars I have thousands of @actifit steps but few enough pictures to warrant a decent post on that dapp. The wifepoints I am earning today will be banked for a trip I have planned in the near future which will be next level. Til then, I am hanging out on a cool spring day where nature decided to send me some snow for giving @davedickeyyall a hard time about getting some yesterday. Poetic justice.

Dog is happy and the park is peacefully sublime.

Bronze Medal - Headstock

IMG_0932 (1).jpg

Years ago, when I became blissfully obsessed with hoppy, strong IPAs, this was one of only a few IPAs available on the limited craft beer shelf. Nickelbrook Brewing Company became one of my favourite breweries and continues to be so even though I have never visited the brewery! They have a few IPAs of merit available all year around, and have some fantastic seasonal brews which seem to make their way to my stores consistently. Perhaps I will take the opportunity to end the suspense and finally visit Nickelbrook.

IMG_0933.jpg

West Coast IPAs were the only IPAs available and Headstock https://www.nickelbrook.com/product/Head-Stock/967 was the class of them as far as I am concerned. They claim to use Nugget hops but I recall the recipe including Mosaic which are probably my favourite strain. Coppery golden, serious and still sweet just like me.

The description on the side of the label belts out a heavy metal tune now but it was not always that way. Back when cameras didn't have today's resolution and bandwidth demanded smaller pictures, the label looked like the headstock of a guitar maybe from Woodstock. Though I love the Grateful Dead, I never felt compelled to buy one til they shifted to the black and gold cans. So glad they evolved the label to catch my eye and left me with years of consistently picking this up for the fridge and my mouth!

Silver - 21 Haze

IMG_9703.jpg

I realized you can see my reflection in acrobatic poses in each of my beer portraits if you look close enough. Anyhow, this beer pops up and down my top-10 for various reasons. Down sometimes because there are so many damn fine IPAs in town and preferences waver. Right now, this takes second because of how many times I have brought cans home from the brewpub lately, and the fact it was unavailable for like a month 'til just a couple days ago. Perhaps absence makes the palate grow fonder.

IMG_9705.jpg

Heritage Hops turns my fancy because the brewpub is right in the square, they have a neat IPA game, and the bartenders there are fantastic. I can never pick a favourite local brewery because they each are pretty special and any of them could have a spot in the top 3.

IMG_9750.jpg

21 Haze https://heritagehopsbrew.com/products/21-haze-east-coast-ipa is an East Coast IPA, in a town with more than one fantastic East Coast IPA. No less bold than other IPAs but the smoothness and sweetness seem to take center stage.

IMG_6686.jpg

Since I own a mug on the shelf, the pub is a 9-iron from a dozen clients, I like the staff, and there are beers for the fridge, I enjoy this beer quite a bit and have to give it its day in the sun. Damn good beer.

GOLD - Meanwhile, Down in Moxee

IMG_6955.jpg

Great Lakes Brewery would be the one I would answer if the question was, "If there was only one brewery left, like in a partial apocalypse, which would you choose? As stupid as a scenario that is, and complete disrespect for the veritable win fall of fantastic breweries in this region, I would say Great Lakes https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/ Too many damn good beers to mention in a single blog and principally responsible for me being overly infatuated with IPAs from the first Lake Effect IPA.

IMG_6919.jpg

Truth is, Octopus is pretty pissed off at its omission as a beer generally hast to be available year-round in order to make my top-5. Well settle down 8-legs as I know Moxee is a seasonal, and this is the top 3!

IMG_1011.jpg

Meanwhile...Down in Moxee https://www.greatlakesbeer.com/Beer/meanwhile-down-in-moxee-ipa/ has been subtly refined in the branding but have the same awesome El-Dorado hoppy goodness New England Style IPA. Hazy, bold and sweeter at the end without sacrificing the bitterness. The ZLOMK of hops will only be available a short time and make this drop right off my top 3 for another of about 24 other fantastic beers that can win my favour all year around..

CONGRATS MOXEE!

So kind of you to say!

When all is said and done, I aim to host guided beer tours in my small town for $Hive and have the lifestyle of touring breweries across the world with hive community special guests in each post!

Lofty goals but possible because of our favourite blockchain and supportive leaders like you.

Guided beer tours sounds a great idea, would have to offer to be driver with no beer tasting !LOLZ

Always great ideas, except our breweries are spread over great distances not in every town like the UK or Europe where each has a label.

Always enjoy your knowledge about brewing.

All IPAs? Seems pretty narrow minded for a ""beerologist""....

It is called progression, evolution and refinement of palate.

There is no accounting for taste and maybe I am more of a zythophile afterall.
