Caledonia 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Best Ale 🍺 for EARTH 🌍 DAY

avatar

Hello Hello Hivians and beer lovers.

It is Saturday and been forever and a day that I shared a beer with you, in fact today was only the second day of 2023 that I had a beer.

We were out in town and rather than have some overpriced garbage at the funfair in town for the week we decided to try Alfie's pub. It used to be the Tipsy Cow but that shut down, and has been reincarnated as Alfies, it had a simple yet enticing menu.

Plus it was not a chain pub!

It might not have been a chain pub, but do you see the chain stool 🀣

Okay let's get back to the beer.

I am not a lager fan, I mean I will drink it if there is nothing else, but I prefer a darker beer.

My first beer since February so I decided to have a trusted favourite!

I am in Scotland after all, so a pint of Caledonia Best came into play. Brewed in Wellpark Brewery, it is described as

An Ale for caledonia

I describe it as cheap and cheerful but smooth!

Even the menu was cheap and cheerful.

We choose to share three starters ... Can you guess which ones???

First though, look at that pint, the barmaid knew her stuff, a perfect pint of Caledonia Best.

We timed it well and got our food at 2pm. You can see where we sat was pretty quiet, which was fine as it filled in no time, and we would have been struggling to get a table.

Talking about tables, did you guess what food or more precisely what 3 starters did we choose?

I had never had pulled beef before in a quesadilla and my goodness it was fluffing delicious! Even Mrs T who coming from Colorado has eaten her share of quesadillas, was waxing lyrical about it.

For info if you were wondering we had the chicken wings and nacho. The chicken wings were the whole wing.

The food was outstanding and we will be back.

All I can say is cheers and Happy Saturday!

It does go down rather well!

The window sill had some interesting articles!

Let me leave you with one of the books that was so appropriate for today and shows The Universe delivers!

Yes the book was titled "THE GREEN EARTH"

Today is April 22nd. Do you know what has been celebrated every April 22nd since 1970?

Earth Day!

So Happy EARTH DAY

I like that beer very much and a pulled beef taco sounds like a fine accompaniment!

They should have kept the name of the Topsy Cow though, it's fecking magic!!

COVID was an utter bastard for that. There are loads of cool places up my way that closed for good when lockdown hit. Grrr

Cheers Ed - looks like a nice pint. I'm sure I've tried it before, but I actually prefer lagers ! I used to pass the brewery everyday though - its just along slateford road.
Glad you enjoyed your wee trip out on the town !

Yum, you made me want to drink beer and try that Caledonia hehe, and of course some quesadillas.
I never knew yesterday was earth day. It's been hectic around here, but now I'm with Milo on the couch to see if I can do some hiving. πŸŒ€
