Beer Tasting: Nova Runda C4 & Angry Moose & APA

avatar

Hello everyone! 🍻

How are you? It's a real summer heat here, just right for lying in the shade with a cold beer in hand. If you're lucky and free of commitments, of course. I'll have one, but tonight, not yet.
This #beertasting here happened last Saturday, I might even have written it down and posted it (unlikely though because I had a good time 😃), but where I was (BeerStone Festival, Slunj, Croatia) is deep in the woods, and there was no signal, not GSM, not GPS, nothing. I don't remember anywhere like that in the last few years.

And what did I do there? Actually, I had planned to go to the Trnje Festival which was at the same time in Pivka, very close to me, but my younger son reminded me that Monster Magnet was playing at Bearstone and that he'd like to see them. OK, I'd like to watch them again, too, after about ten years. And we went on a short road trip, Friday and Saturday to Bearstone, and on Sunday morning we went to the island of Pag where we have a caravan, two days of rest by the sea and then back home on Tuesday.
About 600 kilometers all in all.

Well, regardless of all that, I waited 315 #beersaturday to post. Three Croatian craft beers from the same brewery and I can tell you in advance that they were very good, especially with the good music at the festival.

🍻 😎 🍻

Nova Runda APA

Brewed by Nova Runda, Zabok, Croatia.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.2 ABV, 42 IBU. It's American Pale Ale style or West Coast Pale Ale somewhere, average hopped but less bitter and lower in alcohol than American IPAs.

What do the Master Brewers say?

To keep things simple, we decided to combine the name of our company with the style of beer - Nova Runda APA. This is why people in pubs often just order Nova Runda. The main characteristic of this beer is Citra hop, which gives APA a nice, citrusy aroma, as well as pleasant bitterness and a fine dry taste. Since new consumers aren't familiar with the flavour of American hops, the specific citrus note often reminds them of elderflower. But it's just hops, Citra, Magnum and Cascade, trust us.

Hm... I'm all of trust, believe me, 😁

The beer is cloudy orange in colour, the head is average. It smells of hops and citrus. The sip goes smoothly down the throat, and a pleasant hop bitterness with citrus in the background dominates the taste. There is hardly any malt, maybe a little caramel.
In the aftertaste, everything disappears except the hop bitterness which lingers for a while.

A refreshing and drinkable beer. I have no complaints except that I only had one :)
But let's move on!

🍻 😎 🍻

Nova Runda Angry Moose Pils

As mentioned, from the same brewery.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, 40 IBU. It's a German pilsner style, balanced hops bitter and malt sweetness.

What do the Master Brewers say?

Yep, we finally brewed Pilsner! After 5 years of our ale loyalty, we decided it's time to dive into lager production. 6 months of in-depth analysis of Pilsner style, and many trials and errors during that period resulted with this classic German style Pils brewed with Aurora, Bobek & Celeia hops.

The beer is bright yellow, the head is average. It has no particular smell. The first sip goes down the throat smoothly, the palate has a hop bitterness and malt sweetness, about the same, maybe some discreet aromas of herbs and hay.
In the aftertaste, however, it all disappears quickly.

A refreshing and drinkable beer. Balanced hop bitterness and malt sweetness. A really classic German pilsner, very correctly brewed, better than all industrial pilsners, but not an overachiever. Same price as the previous one.

Let's keep going!

🍻 😎 🍻

Nova Runda C4 American IPA

Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 6.1% ABV, 80 IBU. It's India Pale Ale or IPA style. Bitter and hoppy, with citruses and tropical fruits and dry finish.

What do the Master Brewers say?

If APA was hoppy, then it's only natural to hop up IPA even more, and make it EXPLOSIVE! Which reminds us of how this beer got it's name in the first place. The second meaning of C4 IPA refers to the combination of hops that were used to make the beer. Namely, Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Citra form the 4C quadraphony in this hoppy bomb which quickly went from seasonal to regular on our beer menu, along with APA. If you're ready for a full-on #FeelTheHops dominance of American hops, C4 is the perfect choice - it's a hoppy tropical bomb!

A good expression "Hoppy Tropical Bomb". HTB. Maybe a new label next to IPA?

Hazy orange color, foam average, and creamy. Smells of tropical fruits. The first sip goes down the throat quickly, the bitterness of the hops dominates the palate, followed by citruses, mango, orange, and, maybe, pineapple.
The bitterness and fruity aromas linger for quite some time in the aftertaste.

A tasty and juicy beer, very drinkable. One of the best IPAs I have had in a long time. Again, my only regret is that I only ordered one. I couldn't have done it any other way. Already three were quite a lot.
It's not available here, but I hope to find it on the island of Pag, I'm going there with my family soon, one of the liquor stores has most of the Croatian beers, maybe it will be waiting for me there :)

Really, to end with, all the beers were very good, all the same price (€5.5), still quite a bargain for the festival.

🍻 😎 🍻

I listened to all the bands at the festival, and I recorded a lot of material, when I post something you will know :)
I usually post everything on 3speakTV. For now, a short animation from the Monster Magnet performance pictures.

Thank you for your attention.

I'm pleased to hear that you're having such glorious weather that a beer festival was on your agenda. They all look amazing, and the marketers surely know how to entice buyers with those gorgeous designs;)))

You made a mistake, Bearstone, it's music festival, not Beerstone 😎
