The Mask Killer

Chapter 2

In the previous chapter, Caxemina begins the investigation to find the whereabouts of the killer of the mask, in that journey she meets a mysterious man who makes her suspicious.

The carnival continues despite the terrible news, nothing should put an end to the feeling of joy and revelry that is experienced every year. Caxemina takes all the evidence found to the prosecutor's office, the lifeless body is taken to the morgue where every centimeter will be analyzed, leaving nothing to chance.

While the investigation continues, Caxemina returns to the street hoping to have just a small clue that will lead her to the whereabouts of the mysterious murderer. Through the crowd, she wanders around paying attention to any suspicious situation.

She wants to connect all the loose ends and begin to make sense of the case. As she wanders in her thoughts, she is approached by a very athletic and handsome man, she ignores him as he is working. He addresses her in a friendly tone, asking her about the carnival. Caxemina answers him coldly and curtly, not wanting to be distracted from her mission.

The man tells her, "I would like to participate in the parade, but unfortunately I only know how to play the piano." Something is triggered in Caxemina, perhaps it was the requested clue. It is too hasty to draw such untimely conclusions, although it pays to be somewhat suspicious of everyone.

The detective begins to make the conversation, showing some interest in what he tells her. She seductively asks to know more about the piano, then smiles and says: "That sounds exciting, I've always wanted to learn to play, my name is Caxemina". The man laughs mischievously, subtly winking at her. He invites her to his instrument store and proposes to teach her how to play something simple.

"By the way, my name is Eduardo." A big smile is painted on the man's face.

Caxemina doesn't know what decision to make, maybe it's just a mere coincidence or maybe this is in front of what she is so eagerly looking for. After some thought, she accepts the man's proposal and leaves together for the warehouse. She decides to risk everything and follow her instinct, hoping to have some clue that will lead her to the murderer. They arrive at the man's warehouse, he opens the door and takes her by the hand inviting her to enter. He shows her around, telling her the whole story of his life.

Eduardo shows her the piano and sits down to play her a Mozart tune, he has a certain fondness for classical music and tuning his beloved grand piano. Then he invites her to sit down. "Now what I promised you, I will teach you how to play a simple piece." Eduardo takes Caxemina's hands showing her the keystrokes she must make to play the melody.

After the quick lesson, Caxemina returns to her reality and puts aside the charm that came from that individual. Eduardo stops and gets some drinks to accompany the evening, while the detective continues to play the piano. The man returns with her and offers her a drink. He subtly approaches her and gives her a passionate kiss, Caxemina cannot resist that moment, letting herself be carried away by her impulses.

That piano becomes the accomplice of these lovers, at the moment when they are about to consummate their passion, an employee of the store knocks at the door, and the couple leaves their romance and returns to reality. He runs to open the door, the two men arrive at where the detective is, they introduce themselves and the employee tells him that the new order of piano strings has arrived.

Eduardo checks the strings telling the clerk mockingly, "they are strong enough to strangle someone, hahaha...."

Caxemina immediately hears them and knows there is something strange about all this. Eduardo shows a rope to her and tempering it tightly sketches a few words. "What do you think". She is a little afraid and stands up quickly, telling him that she has to leave immediately. He offers her a ride, but she refuses and quickly leaves the warehouse without noticing a mask in a corner among the guitars. She is shocked and continues on her way.
