You have probably heard, seen, or read a similar story to the one that I will write, but it is not a bad idea to remind ourselves about these things and try to stay "out of the loop", or better said, try to find a solution rather than going in circles...

This story began in the local supermarket called Mercadona, or it was a local but I think today they are one of the most famous in Spain, if not the most powerful... Anyway, like every big supermarket, they have their "own brands", which are usually just products printed with their name and not developed or owned... Spaniards called those brands "marca blanca"... Some of the products can have a surprisingly good quality, but that's not the topic of the post...

The Shampoo Story.jpg
Created in Canva.com

A few days ago, I went to buy a shower gel, and as I'm not the "brand-type" guy, I was searching for the cheapest, which is usually a supermarket brand... Found the shelf, and noticed that they have 5-6 new "flavors", price 1.50EUR... Searching the "old one", found it... 1.40EUR... Yeah, that was the last price... for the bottle of 750cl... So, the new ones are 10 cents more as they are "NEW"... fair enough...

Now is the moment to look back into history... Something that we very often forget to do... very often... I have a feeling that we humans forget things faster and faster... I noticed that in myself as sometimes, I can't remember what happened 3 days ago... lol... + distractions that take all our time and we don't have it to reflect on things!

A few years ago, there was only ONE type of shower gel of that brand (no brand) and it was in a bottle of 1 liter and it cost 0.99 EUR! After that, they raised the price to 1.20EUR... Not that long ago the price bumped to 1.40 EUR as we got a new package and 1 additional flavor! Fair enough, it was NEW! That's always a good excuse...

Guess what? I have a feeling that my "prophet skills" are coming back as I can sense what's coming next... They will throw out the new package, BIGGER than the old one, BUT only for 1 flavor (the one that nobody was buying)... It will be 1 liter, sold for 1.60-1.70 EUR as you will get GRATIS 250ml!!! The same story goes for chocolate packages, washing powder, bread, drinks, etc.

... and the circle will be completed... We can do it again in the same order...

Why is this story in the #MyHiveGoals post? Well, we must be AWARE of these things and of the HUGE inflation that is happening... Holding fiat will lead us nowhere as it will lose value day by day... What options do we have? I bet you know the answer...

Back to the #MyHiveGoals details... These posts and these goals are keeping me focused on things that CAN make a change, things that can cope with that "inflation circle" that I described in the short story...

It has passed 14 days since my last report and we got into the new month, which means that #HivePUD is behind us and it will show as a big spike on my HiveStats chart... Not as big as a few months ago when I was doing 1K power-up, but "only" 250 HP big... 🙂

hivestats.png
screenshot from hivestats.io

In that time, I have accumulated 757 HivePower in total, including 250HP from the HivePUD... If I deduct that, it would be around 250 HP per week, which isn't enough to catch up with my HivePower goal. I know the exact reason for that and I have no excuses... I mean, I have, but they are lame... lol... I didn't create enough content...

MyHiveGoals01.png

On the other side, my SWAP.HIVE:LEN shares goal built up nicely in the last 2 weeks... I have added almost 150 "shares" which is the biggest number lately and that should be the "common" number that I should do every time... Will see how it goes in the future...

My Rising Star goal is a completely different story and that one is closer and closer to its completion... Over 1100 cards have been added from the last report, which makes over 500 per week... I began to do my market purchases every day instead of every second day and that helped a lot... Also, I got some more expensive cards that I didn't have in my collection! All in all, I'm a bit more than 5K away from my yearly goal and if I continue on this pace, I could reach it in less than 10 weeks, in around 2 months!

These were my initial numbers and goals for 2024, created on January 7th, 2024...

Fooling and deceiving customers.
I remember when it started, with the chocolates.
The price is the same, but the weight is reduced to 80gr/275gr, and after that the price increases by 100gr/300gr, then the weight is reduced again... And so, gradually, the price goes "to the moon".

But customers accept, no one boycotts...
Here's an example from yesterday. My sister, who works as a bartender in a cafe in the neighborhood (in a settlement, far from the center), tells me. Prices on all kinds of coffee and juices, food, raised by exactly 20%, which is really a lot.
And still, the cafe garden is full, no one gives up, they pay at those new prices...

And if there was a boycott immediately after the price increase, would the owner return the price to one with a lower price increase, that is the question... Probably not. He would still have his own way...

Yeah, I remember the time with the chocolate size and I don't believe that boycott would change anything... On the other side, I remember the time when the boycott helped, for example, the case with Nutella and palm oil... They did switch to sunflower oil after the huge boycott, but maybe it was more the media pressure instead...

Yeah we all encounter these little price tricks when we go buying our daily needs in the supermarket. Thankfully crypto markets are looking good lately. ;)

I find crypto to be a great hedge against these inflationary tricks...

The price tricks suck and it sucks to see all the prices going up. I don't expect them to go down anytime soon either. You can probably expect a few more flavors in a few years.

As for you goals, it sucks to hear that you didn't hit your HP goal but I still think you are doing quite well because of the LEN/HIVE shares.

I think that nobody expects to see prices go down, at least not for a longer timeframe... With all the money printing going around, there is no chance of stopping inflation... Btw. inflation can be good, but only if salaries are following... and usually, that is NOT the case...

An other thing they do which you have not mentioned is that they reduce the size without saying, keep same price and Say 'hey we didn't increase the price!'

Hehehehe... Yeah... that was the case with the shampoos too... a smaller bottle, the same price... after some time, price bump... then a bigger bottle and a "FREE" 20% product... 😃

Most of these price inflation is because of lack of market regulations by the government. People take their products and slams whatever amount they deem fit, just to make extra money. It's a greed thing. In Nigeria, price increases everyday and salaries of people remains the same.

Not sure if market regulations would help as we all know how it works when the government gets involved... Usually, they destroy things even more... lol... IMO, healthy competition is the best way of "regulations"

I know how you feel, I also buy at Mercadona. 😅 In your example at least you get something new. I get more angry when they take us for fools and reduce the weight or quantity so as not to raise the price. Or when they advertise as "offer" large lots that, if you do the calculations, are more expensive than buying small containers separately.

Hahahahaha... That's true... If you buy more, sometimes is even more expensive... lol... Also, Mercadona is famous for its "huge" discounts... from 0.99 to 0.98... 😂

Its a crazy one. They are definitely reaping us off. But everyone will not own a supermarket . We just have to keep pace with the inflation. Its just so sad.

Thanks for more light 💡 on this issue @ph1102 . Much love ❤️

We just have to keep pace with the inflation. Its just so sad.

That's true... And we can't avoid that! The most important is to be aware of it and to not ignore the problem... after that, we are searching for solutions... IMO, Crypto is a great solution for fiat issues...

Thanks for your kind words! Have a great week!

Surely. Awareness is very important in everything, as it gives us the opportunity of knowing the next step to take.

Thanks so much @ph1102 . Great publish.

You're doing great with your goals, man. 1200 HP in a month is perfect.

As for the shampoo story, it's so true. I think some brands do a good job, but generally products with a few dollars difference in price do the same job.

Oh, yeah... the thing with brands has gone out of control... Their quality is lower and lower, so it doesn't make sense to pay more, just to have a "branded" thing...

The way companies portray and package their products is funny and only the smart ones will know that it is still the same and there is nothing different. I feel it is just like iPhones. I feel almost all the iPhones are the same with just little different but people keep buying because of the bigger brands or new ones

hehehehe... that iPhone comparison is perfect... The product is good, that's for sure... My son has the cheapest model and the camera is better than any other Android, but they are selling the same thing year by year, raising the number of the models only... and the price... 😃

I love the shampoo analogy. It is really annoying the games the manufacturers are playing with the products. We are buying rubbish bags that before Corona were good quality and lasting very well and suddenly they dropped the quality and now ripping and breaking. So we need to find a new product that does the job we want. But it's on so many products, savings being made on cheaper packaging, cheaper ingredients and so forth. It shows that people are not so price sensitive having their savings constantly devalued...

I don't even go into the topic of quality so thanks for bringing that up! I have a story about it from my friend who was working in the AMD/ATI Quality Control department... Whenever they create a new chip, the product has the most quality components and they develop, for example, their GPU again, by using the best materials... After passing the QC and tests, they resell the rights to use the chip to ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, etc... After that, the carnage begins... Who will dump the price lower by using shitty materials and taking out the original quality from the product... 😃

Ah that makes sense. Reading the latest Jimmy Song book usually leads back to inflation and money printing, but there are manufacturers who try to lower quality to make profits, I guess that explains why electronics have some many issues these days. My last laptop lasted a year.

I used to use a lot of shampoo then my hair started getting damaged and falling out from the front so now I don't use shampoo at all because I have very little hair left on my head.
