Splinterlands: The new 'Fab Four' ruleset.

Fab Four.jpg

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my Splinterlands blog, I'm a little ahead of my usual Thursday blogging day, since it's Wednesday evening for me, The Social Media Challenge has already launched and this way I can spread out the blogging work a bit.
If you're a Splinterlands player and have some spare time, you should consider start blogging yourself since it can pay for your deck, it's a bit of work and it takes some practice, but the upvotes can be really nice!

This is what my last two posts earned! 😃

Ranked Battle Overhaul

Six days ago, last Thursday when the previous season ended, the new battle system went live, with a lot of changes, hopefully fixing at least a part of the new player experience, and also very important: you can now play your high level deck right when you start, I always felt it was a bit unfair I first needed to reach Gold League before I could use the cards I paid for.
You can read the Splinterlands post about the overhaul here.

With the first week almost done, I still see max level decks in low Modern Silver League, so I switched to Wild League again to farm my chests, just like I did before the overhaul, I think this will take a few weeks before the big boys found their way out of the lower leagues and things normalize again.

Is it any good, you ask? Yes, I think it is! It's a lot of fun to see my favorite game making changes that will be positive for the long-term, when there's no fun, you won't last multiple years.

Two new rulesets!

This came as a surprise to me, as it wasn't in the post announcing the overhaul, the update came with two new rulesets, Fab Four and Five Alive, in which only four or five monsters can be played in a team, pretty cool, more to think about, I like it!

That's what I like about this game... we get a ruleset combination, and think about what the best possible team could be, it's really strategic AND earns us money, great! 😃

The battle I want to share for this post is a 46 mana Wild League battle with a pretty interesting ruleset combination: Fab Four / Fire and Regret / Counterspell... So, heavy melee teams can be expected.... right!? Well... we could try to surprise the other team by playing magic, with a lot of mana available and only 4 monsters to choose, there's going to be a lot of big boys and girls on the battlefield this time! What to expect from the other team? All teams have good melee units, I think a water team is the most obvious, with Possibilus maybe, since he's a very strong melee based summoner...

First look at the battlefield:

image.png

O wow I didn't expect that, a partial magic team with two VERY strong melee attackers but BOY they have one huge problem, my Slipspawn has the Forcefield ability 😁 good luck with that!

My plan was to bring Immortalis to shatter armor from a big and fast water team, the void is protecting my monsters from the spell reflect, the 3 damage magic monsters only receive 1 damage and they both have a lot of Health Points so it will take some time until they die from that, I brought amplify for when my opponent wanted to surprise me by bringing archers or magic monsters, so that's one more drawback my opponent has, I think it's fair to say this is going to be easy, but fun to watch!

My Line-Up:

  • Summoner: Immortalis - reason: Void and Shatter
  • First position: Grund - reason: High damage Double Strike, Trample, great synergy with the shatter.
  • Second position: Mycelic Slipspawn - reason: Taunt, high HP, the Forcefield is just a handy extra really but in this case it decided the outcome of this battle!
  • Third position: Goblin Psychic - reason: Heal, Silence, Affliction, a jack of all trades.
  • Fourth position: Lord Thanalor - reason: High HP, good damage, amplify.

The Battle:

Round 1: The fight didn't start very well for me, my tank got killed in the first round, thankfully I've got Forcefield!

image.png

Round 2: Funny to see two VERY dangerous monsters only doing 1 damage, and Iziar isn't doing ANY damage due to the Void, Goblin Psychic easily heals Slipspawn back to full health, this won't take long!

image.png

Round 3: Three down.. one more to go, and he won't survive next round! 😆

Round 4: Slipspawn, being the star of this battle got to have the kill shot, winning the battle for me.

You can watch the battle unfold for yourself here.

0.5 SPS for the win, and more important, 11k RP for those nice Gold chests, they are still special to me since I only just have upgraded my deck from Silver to Gold, and besides a few more Gold Foil commons and a few Epics, I didn't pull anything really nice just yet, but that's okay since it's a ton of fun to play and I'll just keep grinding!

Well, that's already the end for this post, I'll take some time grinding my ranked play and after that relax a little, tomorrow, when the new Battle Mage Secrets post launches, I will be back with another post, my deck still needs some improvements so I'll keep posting!
