The barrel aged (in Jamaican rum casks) white stout that aged on my kitchen top as well…

Well… I have almost forgotten about this exact beer. It’s been sitting in the corner of my kitchen top for quite some time. It was between some jars with herbs and honey, almost completely invisible from the eye of everyday kitchen user. I have evem forgotten what style this beer was, after sitting there for more than a year! I was only sure that it was a high ABV beer and wanted to mature this a while. It’s also a good experiment about if the beers that are relatively high in alcohol content can be stored for prolonged periods of time and still be good for drinking.

After an afternoon of spring cleaning of the terrace I was too tired to deal with the children’s toys. They will soon be up from their afternoon nap, so my efforts would be pointless. Also, I think that the farm gives a good background to my photos. The “White Stork” beer also suits relatively well the overall villager’s scene.

So… the beer is actually a very interesting style… I remember some years ago all the breweries had this mania of making some “brand new style” beers. White stout? But… why is it white when it is black? And the other paradox… A black IPA?!? It is a PALE ale… why should it be black? If there is someone who understands this, please give me the answers… It’s clear that these styles were a bit pointless, because they lived no more than a year. I think now no one makes stuff like this and it’s better!

This beer has best before date of 16.11.2025, which means it has a lot of potential left, but I decided bot to wait for the final date. 2023 sounds pretty good year to consume the White Stout, right?

This beer’s special attribute is bot the color. I think the fact that it was aged in Jamaican Rum barrels makes it extraordinary. And I will soon understand if this is the case. But now, let’s open the bottle!

Whoops!
A little mess has been made… I think the beer didn’t like being closed in that bottle for so much time.
You’re free now, little beer… You’re free!

Luckily just a little bit got out of the bottle. The mess was neutralized in no time. It was now rime to pour the beer in the glass.

Even before having a sip, I caught a bit unique aroma. The casks had given the beer a very soecual aroma. I remembered my attemts of aging the beer in oak barrel and the unique aroma the oak gives to the beverage. The rum left some extra special traces to this beer and there were definitely some rum nuances here. But… There was definitely something that was not exactly up to my taste.

I thiught… if this beer was an ordinary Black colored imperial or Baltic stout, and aged in some oak barrels, would the final product be better? Most probably yes! Somehow I didn’t like entirely the combination of pale beer and barrel aging. Well, of course I finished it, but really have a lot other beers that are more favorable and enjoyable.

At least a cow and a pig came to make me some company.

Finally… an interesting beer, but definitely not the one that I am willing to buy again, if I have the chance. This one bottle was enough for me! 😁

Oh, the kids are already awake. Better go and spend some time with them! See you soon and have a wonderful Sunday!

Cheers!
