Notes from a Novice Trader: Odd DEX Out

As important as it is to know which DEX has which unique features, it's just as important to know which DEX lacks which features. This edition of "Notes from a Novice Trader" is focused on the features missing from Hive Engine, LeoDex, and Tribaldex. That's why it's subtitle is "Odd Dex Out".

Cover Image made using HTML and CSS except for DEX graphics. DEX graphics are from their respective DEXs. Light edits made using MS Paint.

Graphic table made using Excel 2003 and lightly edited with MS Paint.

These are notes I'm sharing regarding my research into the 3 HIVE DEXs, so they will be subject to change as I discover new things or need to make corrections to earlier notes.

The Missing Features at Each DEX

Missing from Hive Engine

Symbol Callup

Although Hive Engine ofers on its Market pages a list of the Layer 2 tokens most active at the time, it lacks a drop-down list feature for symbol callup. If you've seen Market Data for DEC and SWAP.HIVE on the Active List but you want to see Market Data for PIZZA
or BEER, the quickest way to get to either page is to modify the URL in the address bat to reflect either PIZZA otr BEER.

Day/Night Mode

Hive Engine appears in Day Mode only. That is, it always features a white background. Although being able to switch between Day Mode and Night Mode may seem like a cosmetic feature, some content is best viewed in Night Mode. Even if a Hiver never uses [the hypothetical] Day/Night Mode at Hive Engine, it's usually a good idea to provide that option.

Missing from LeoDex

The Info Widget

While there is an info widget on the Tokens page, it's missing from the Market page where trades are made. Tribaldex has the info button beside the Symbol Callup field. Even Hive Engine has the info button as part of the page title. If someone needs info on a Layer 2 token, it takes time to visit the Tokens page and then to locate the symbol in question. This is time better spent of executing more trades.

1.00% Fees for Deposit and Withdrawals

It's missing because LeoDex charges 0.25% fees instead. This isn't exactly a missing feature, but it's good to be reminded of this key difference occasionally

Token Creation

Token creation is probably the most important reason to use Hive Engine. Both LeoDex and Tribaldex are alternative interfaces for Hive Engine. Tribaldex also has a token creation feature, and most likely it's tied to Hive Engine. LeoDex is missing this feature, but that's not necessarily a criticism of LeoDex; it's just a detail to keep in mind if you want to use that feature some day.

Missing from Tribaldex

The Wallet Menu

Tribaldex opted for a wallet widget in the navigation area near the login/logout control. This is a purely cosmetic decision, but for some Hivers used to using a text link instead it can get tricky on ocasion.

Reward Claims

Both Hive Engine and LeoDex let Hivers claim rewards for their wallets. For some reason, Tribaldex lacks this feature. It's another detail for users fo the 3 HIVE DEXs to keep in mind.

Just My Two Sats

Most odd-DEX out features are more like differences in details or implementation, but a few are actually features which are missing and should be present.

Symbol callup us a useful feature in any application, not just here. The Active List which Hive Engine provides eliminates the need to lookup many popular symbols, but it would still be useful for the Market pages.

Rewards claims are more of a wallet feature than a DEX feature, but the wallets show links to the market page. Whether this is considered a cosmetic feature or a UX issue, it would be a nice addition to Tribaldex.

LeoDex is the leanest DEX in terms of user expereince, so it makes sense that it lacks a token creation feature. The design of LeoDex may also be the reason it can charge fees of 0.25% instead of 1.00%.

The design of Tribaldex is different from the design of Hive Engine. While the design of Tribaldex more closely resembles that of LeoDex (or even PeakD), Tribaldex is different from both Hive Engine and LeoDex is important ways.

Hive Engine, LeoDex, and Tribaldex each offer things the other 2 DEXs don't. They also lack things the other 2 DEXs have. They all get the job done when it matters. Knowing which DEX offers what helps make deciding which DEX to use easier.
