Realm play-2-earn Game - Season 11 day 52 - Strong WAX price is diluting any game gains

I'm continuing to enjoy playing the game realm, which is a world strategy/builder type play-2-earn game on the wax blockchain.

Season 11 progress so far

Its day 52 of season 11. I'm in gold league now for the first time, and its a lot harder. I simply dont have the leaders needed to be able to compete as well as I did in the silver and bronze leagues.

As can be seen from my stats, I'm currently 195th in gold league. You need to be in the top 100 at the end of the season in order to get better end of season rewards, and I'm clearly not going to get there.

I could do better than 195, but I've just not been grinding as much knowing that I wont get into the top 100. I probably could get into the 170s if I grinded more, but thats still not enough.

I'm even contemplating relaxing more, so that I drop back down to silver league for next season where I will be more competitive.

Plan to become more competitive

The problem I've got is a lack of good leaders, so I'm going to have to get more if I want to be more competitive. I've already invested a bit into the game and I dont want to keep on doing that such that its an open tap with one way flow. Therefore I've decided that any more leaders purchased must come from earnings from within the game.

There are 6 levels of leaders - 1 star through to 5 star, and then platinum (being the highest). So far I have:

• 1 x 4 star Hacker
• 4 x 3 star leaders (2 generals, 1 explorer and 1 scientist)
• 10 x 2 star leaders (politician, scientist, pacifist, 2 x explorers, celebrity, professional, hacker, architect and economist)
• 5 x 1 star leaders (celebrity, economist, professional, hacker and scientist).

As such my deck consists mostly of 2 star leaders. I reckon I can slowly change that over time to 4 star leaders via earning from within the game:

• I need to keep focusing on earning RLM in game. I can then cash that out, change it to WAX and then buy the leaders,
• In addition to this, I can try and sell any misc rewards that I get during playing the game (ie, any duplicate 1 star leaders I get, any rare boost cards that I dont need, etc - which I can sell for WAX),
• I can also try to make some funds via trading between the price of WAX and RLM.

I can then start purchasing 4 star leaders, roughly in the following order in order to start levelling up my deck and start earning more:

1 - 2 x politicians. These leaders have 2 main advantages. The first is that they earn high salary rates - double of many other leaders. So with these I can increase my salary income of RLM, to help fund the purchase of more leaders. The second benefit is that their special ability is to reduce building costs, so it means I'll be able to level up buildings more easily at the start of a season due to the reduced costs, when resources are scare, and also towards the middle of a season when my building are close to being maxed, but cost too much to upgrade.

2 - 1 x General - to reduce mission requirements further (help make missions easier to complete)

3 - 1 x hacker - to increase mission rewards (for more in-game earnings)

4 - 1 x economist - to reduce training costs (less resource use, and especially to help early in the season when resources are scarce, and also to help with domination type weekend events where you need to produce a lot of helpers)

5 - 1 x professional to reduce training speed (again quite useful for domination type weekend events where you need to produce a lot of helpers)

6 - 1 x architect to reduce building speed (helpful during the mid-season when buildings are higher level and take a lot longer to upgrade)

From there I will then aim to complete the set, buying up the remaining leaders in order to get the 4 star set bonus (which reduces mission requirements by 2%).

So it will take a while to get there, but starting with the 2 x politicians is the right step in the journey to help build up income costs. I've actually got enough RLM to buy them now, however the WAX to RLM price is not good at the moment.

WAX is strong against RLM, impacting the earning power from within the game

The plan above is dependent on earning RLM in game, then exchanging it for WAX to buy the leaders from the market. However, the price of WAX is currently very strong compared to RLM. The conversion rate has roughly halved since the start of the year, meaning it would take double the amount of RLM to purchase something compared to the start of the year.

As such, in the last few weeks, I've taken what WAX I had, including selling some spare items from within the game for WAX, and converted that to RLM, taking advantage of the low RLM price (at around 0.0055 WAX to RLM). I've then staked that RLM in game in order to take advantage of the 36.5% APR staking rate. Assuming the price will then recover a little (hopefully), I'll then swap the RLM back to WAX, hopefully at around 0.0080 WAX to RLM (or above) to net a small profit, which will give boost when buying the leaders.

There usually is a variation of the price of RLM over a season and often the price increases when the pack purchase offer comes out not long after the start of a new season, so I may have to wait until next season for that to happen. However, by then I should have enough RLM stored up to buy maybe 3 to 4 leaders which would give a nice boost to my competitiveness, and then provide the earning capability to buy the others.

So this hinges heavily on the price of RLM recovering compared to WAX, and I've no real feel as to whether that is realistic or not (although please see the game announcement further below which came out as I was writing this post). Either way, if it isnt, the leaders will be too expensive anyway, so I'd have to decide what to do if the price does not recover. If it doesnt, it may not be worth playing the game any more because the earnings will be too trivial.

Summary

• Although I'm still enjoying the game, its way more competitive in gold league and as such, its not as much fun for me as it was. Therefore I'm considering dropping back to silver league for next season,
• In order to be more competitive I need to improve my deck and I aim to do that by trying to purchase a full deck of 4 star leaders via my earnings in game,
• I'm hoping to do that by trading between the price of WAX and RLM. I'm currently buying RLM with spare WAX now, while RLM is cheap compared to WAX, and then dumping it into staking to earn staking rewards, all while stock piling RLM also by playing the game,
• Once the price of WAX weakens to RLM, hopefully towards the start of next season, I'll sell back into WAX and start buying the leaders I need.

If it works out, then great ! If it doesnt, then it may not even make much sense continuing to play the game - due to the low value of rewards due to the strong price of WAX.

And while I was creating this post, the game makers put out an announcement on discord. It looks like they have some nice new features coming up for Season 12 including new NFTs - which is pretty exciting. So hopefully thats what's need to give the price of RLM a boost.
