Week on Hive

11 of 22 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

In the Spotlight

Speakers Number at Hivefest Keeps Growing

In this week's announcement, the following 4 speakers were presented:

  • @yabapmatt, co-founder and CEO of Splinterlands
  • @lizanomadsoul, co-founder and curator for @wordmappin
  • the other co-founder of WorldMapPin and organizer of Beer Saturday, @detlev
  • @mynewlife, "a talented videographer with a deep commitment to community engagement" as he was described in the announcement

They join the rest of the speakers already presented so far:

  • arcange
  • blocktrades
  • crimsonclad
  • hallmann (governor of @krolestwo)
  • howo
  • khaleelkazi
  • nikita, the CTO of the Decentr Web Browser
  • starkerz
  • stoodkev
  • techcoderx
  • theycallmedan
  • vaultec

The announcement also presents the place that will host Day 2 of Hivefest conferences. That's the Diocletian's Palace in Split, which looks remarkably well preserved.

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Onboarding Businesses to... Hive

Distriator is a cashback program for using HBD and BTC Lightning for purchases and then posting about it on Hive. We talked about it before. They came back with a guide to "introducing businesses to HBD, enhancing customer engagement, and increasing business visibility". That to me seems like a good idea, especially for businesses that operate offline and having a physical location they can advertise this way.

They also created a guide for the steps to take to run a successful SpendHBD workshop.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Automated Hive Badges

PeakD already had badges on their website for a long time. What this Open Peak development seem to add besides opening their source code, is to create a standard for these badges that can be created by anyone using personalized criteria of eligibility, and an automated system that follows or unfollows accounts based on these criteria. More details in their post.

TravelFeed Decided to Keep Going

After analyzing the options, TravelFeed decided to continue as a separate platform from WorldMapPin. They will keep a set of pins for travel only. From what they say, WorldMapPin intends to extend the use of pins for other situations beyond travel.

Games

SPS Distribution Audit

@clayboyn, with the help of Splinterlands team members, performed an audit of the SPS distribution to date. Some expected results, a few interesting discoveries. I'd suggest to read his findings and suggestions at the end.

Meetings / Events / Communities

Presenting OffChain Louxembourg

This seems like an interesting experiment that introduces the concept of decentralized human organization. A sort of a DAO, if I'm understanding the concept, but applied offchain, in real life.

Use of HBD in Sucre on the Rise

It looks like the usage of HBD for transactions/purchases in Sucre has been on the rise for some time, a situation @demotruk has been following closely in his stats.

Meetup in Aachen, Germany Took Place at the End of Last Week

In a post mostly in German (luckily for us non-speakers, there are translators), @detlev talks about plans of outdoor activities for last Friday afternoon. After that, we had an update talking about the presentation of WorldMapPin by the same @detlev and @lizanomadsoul.

A New Borehole in Ghana

Borehole #15 funded by Hive was launched recently.

Week in the Crypto World

Mt. Gox's Collapse in 2014 Sent Ripples into 2024

For anyone who doesn't know the details, this article is a good overview of what the reverberations of Mt. Gox's collapse were and why we are talking about it these days, more than 10 years later. If you were given back your Bitcoin after 10 years at 10,000% profit, what would you do? Keep holding or selling? Note that at the time of writing the linked article, BTC was at 59k... I guess we know what direction the market picked...

It's nice to see that quite a few of the things you cover here are "external" applications of Hive. Particularly hopeful about anything that can bring external businesses to Hive... even if all it does it make Hive a part of such companies' social media and awareness generation campaigns.

=^..^=

That's an important avenue how Hive could become relevant in a seamless way, by being integrated in external businesses, and this is where HBD can help a lot. Thanks for dropping by!

Mt Gox releasing their crypto to their customers after a decade scares me more than the Germans selling. It's unbelievable and unpredictable, just right when we didn't need it..

It was scheduled... Most of us forgot about it, though. 10 years is an eternity in crypto.

You weren't invited to speak at Hivefest? Ripoff!

Distriator is really cool, and the more businesses we can add makes HBD use in the real world practical. I'm excited about that project!

I didn't realize that the SPS audit was published, Validator nodes are badly needed. I guess we shall see what comes of it. I want the game to recover, so I'm for anything moving in a positive direction.

Another borehole is great! Hive helping people in Ghana is fantastic. Great summary post!

LOL!

I like the way it's being developed, clearly with a vision toward expanding the reach of Hive!

Validator nodes are badly needed

For the decentralization of the game, yes. There are so many things that need attention...

I didn't know about the Distriator article, so thanks for sharing that. I wanted to encourage businesses around me to try Hive, so this might be helpful. I wasn't familiar with the Mt. Gox collapse, but it explains a lot on what is happening to token prices.

Funny thing is that Mt. Gox collapse happened 10 years ago. But even now they produce significant effects.

I got tell you brother, it's great to see Hive expanding into real-world applications like cashback programs. Integrating offline businesses with HBD could really boost its visibility and user engagement.

I agree! It's maybe in times like these with greater volatility in the market when the benefits of having HBD and interfacing it with real businesses that depend on certain margins of profitability that volatility can nullify, it's now when the value of having HBD becomes clearer.

I think the onboarding plans are interesting and it's a good approach. It's not easy to get new users to understand HBD and Hive. As for Mt Gox, I guess people are up for a payday. I wonder just how much it will affect prices.

0.00111061 BEE

I imagine many would sell a significant portion of what they receive. But we will see.

One thing I enjoy about Hive is the way it has so many frontends and we can login from whichever one we want
It makes so much sense…

0.00090469 BEE

Indeed! There were times when a front end didn't work but others did, so that's another advantage of having multiple interfaces to the same database and different ways to present the information from the blockchain.

I can feel growth
Hive is growing and I’m very much glad about that!

0.00079434 BEE

We all love to see Hive grow!

0E-8 BEE

Not to worry, the market was oversupplied due to Mtgox, that's why we have seen the prices going down, in a few days the prices will start going up again.

Yeah, MtGox compensations and the German gvt selling BTC happened. I think it was more FUD than direct effect, or maybe the German gvt sold aggressively before they learned how to sell on a market like crypto without creating huge waves.
