Lessons Drawn While Experimenting with Renting Out My Playing Deck for the End of Season at Splinterlands

avatar
(Edited)

The season is not yet over at Splinterlands, but I haven't played with my main account for more than 2 days, like I decided when I reached Champions League.

It feels so strange to have that chunk of time unblocked for something else every day. And I miss playing... It's addictive. But the time was still spent on Splinterlands, because the EOS is when I do major maintanance on my accounts, shift cards between accounts (playing and rental), make additional purchases (not this time though, because I have a strategy which requires me to wait a little longer), upgrade them as needed, and rent out.

Now that the renting out part was mainly completed, I can talk a bit about what I learned during this process.

My gameplan for this EOS was to rent out my playing deck, on top of the cards in my rental account.

I tend to rent out my cards for the EOS before the last day of the season.

I was aware there was either a bug or an intential change which blocked a card from being rented out 24 hours after it came back from another rental. Much like when you used a card. There is a 24 hour cooldown till someone else can use it. The problem is that it passes 24 hours from the time you stop your rentals to the time all of them are available to you. Plus this 24-hour cooldown, that makes upto 48 hours.

If you want to rent out at the 24 hour mark, looks like you need to stop renting 72 hours ahead of EOS. A little earlier if you want want to rent out during the day before the final day. Otherwise this could happen:
image.png

You would have a number of cards you cannot rent out until the cooldown expires. Tip: don't select them when you rent out cards on Peakmonsters, or you won't be able to rent out any of the cards you selected (and there is no warning about that).

The question I ask myself is how on earth do I still have cards with almost 24 hours cooldown, when I stopped renting all of them around 54 hours before EOS, which appears not to be enough anymore.

If this is a bug, it would be really helpful to be fixed. If this is intended behavior, then the interfaces need to be updated to warn people when renting out doesn't work. Maybe a filtering for cards on cooldown would be useful too.

So, this behavior is not new. I think it was present at the previous EOS too. What was unexpected for me was to see cards with almost 24 cooldown, after 54 hours from the time when I stopped renting.

The second lesson I learned was about renting out my playing deck.

@jfang003 was kind enough to drop me a tip for which I am grateful to him. I totally missed it, as you can see in my response, since I never have issues with my collection power on my main account and rarely think about it.

I was about to rent out my entire playing deck for the EOS, but that meant I would have had very low CP at the EOS, and drop to a much lower league, not to mention the rewards. That would have been a very disappointing outcome, and all of it my fault.

So, armed with this information, I only rented out part of my playing deck down to the limit of 500,000 CP, to keep me in Champions League at the end of season.

That means I rented out Death and Fire splinters completely, and then other individual cards.

Why two splinters completely? Because this way I keep my option open to play during the beginning of the next season, with the remaining splinters and a core of cards I often use.

Why did I choose Death and Fire? Because I don't like my Death deck in Gold (or I don't play it properly compared to other splinters with the Gold limitations), and Earth, Water, Life and Dragon offer enough diversity. And I expect a little dip into Gold, even if I start in Diamond 3. And without the proper decks, it's hard to get out of Gold quickly enough to count for the higher leagues.

Even though I wasn't able to rent out my full playing deck like I initially thought I would, I still think the return at the EOS is good enough to deserve these experiments.

The people doing V2K with remote neural monitoring want me to believe this lady @battleaxe is an operator. She is involved deeply with her group and @fyrstikken . Her discord is Battleaxe#1003. I cant prove she is the one directly doing the V2K and RNM. Doing it requires more than one person at the least. It cant be done alone. She cant prove she is not one of the ones doing it. I was drugged in my home covertly, it ended badly. They have tried to kill me and are still trying to kill me. I bet nobody does anything at all. Ask @battleaxe to prove it. I bet she wont. They want me to believe the V2K and RNM in me is being broadcast from her location. And what the fuck is "HOMELAND SECURITY" doing about this shit? I think stumbling over their own dicks maybe? Just like they did and are doing with the Havana Syndrome.

They are reckless and should have shown the proper media what they had before taking me hostage for 5 years.

What would you say while having a gun pointed at your head from an undisclosed location? Have people find it? My hands are tied while they play like children with a gun to my head. Its a terrorist act on American soil while some yawn and say its not real or Im a mental case. Many know its real. This is an ignored detrimental to humanity domestic threat. Ask informed soldiers in the American military what their oath is and tell them about the day you asked me why. Nobody has I guess. Maybe someone told ill informed soldiers they cant protect America from military leaders in control with ill intent. How do we protect locked up soldiers from telling the truth? https://ecency.com/fyrstikken/@fairandbalanced/i-am-the-only-motherfucker-on-the-internet-pointing-to-a-direct-source-for-voice-to-skull-electronic-terrorism

I am not good at games, thus I'm planning on renting out my airdropped Ragnarok NFTs and make some passive income on that.

I am glad you got my hint in time. In my view, I don't mind the extra cool down because there is still a lot of collection power I can choose from. Most of the rentals are for collection power so it doesn't really matter as much so a 2-day buffer is enough.

No, this isn't it. The owner can't rent out the cards until the cooldown is over anymore. So it doesn't matter if someone wants to rent the card only for CP, if the owner can't rent it out until the cooldown expires.

You can't rent out that card but the CP is still with you. For example, I want to keep at least 150k CP and those cooldown monsters count towards that.

I didn't realize there were actual breaks in Splinterlands. I am sure you will find a productive way to use your extra time.

There aren't. But one has to do this maintenance tasks at some point (for example, you can't combine cards while they are rented out). And the best way I figured out was when I stop renting my cards before the EOS.

The management of all this...lol Some savvy entrepreneur could set up a nice little business managing everyone's rentals each season lol

Is that a hint of another CTP project in the works? I'd better tune-in tonight in case of an announcement, lol.

Yeah, it takes a lot of time... But less than before, now that I learned more Peakmonsters tricks. Even this way, I don't optimize for renting throughout the season, which means I might lose some DEC (or rather not earn it). I tried to do it, but it simply takes to much time to manage every day. Which means less time for other tasks.

There might not be a need for someone someone savvy doing the management for others, once Peakmonsters releases the automated versions of management, on both sides (for owners and renters). That feature might cost some PKM, but it'll be really useful!

I started renting last season and thought it was always like this, hope they fix this bug soon.

In my case I rent everything I have because I don't have enough cards for league promotion so I get a better reward this way.

Good luck on your new projects with the extra free time!

Yep, it's nice to have more time at the end of the season. Plus not to be stressed about making the CL or not.

Renting isn't easy but if your smart you can make a lot on the last couple of days. I rent out a lot of my deck but only the ones that i don't use for playing so that i can keep going to the last minute in the game.

What you can do is create sets on peakmonsters and create a main deck with your most used cards.

Then two days before the end of season you can rent out every card outside your main deck for profit. I like to go with 50 CP per DEC so that they all rent out but the profit is very healthy.

I have set a main deck, gold deck, fully rental deck and rent them accordingly through out the season.

it can take work to set up but there are ways to make a nice profit in the rental market. I'm hoping for a good day with the profits and it's much more than i will get by going up the ranks higher.

It's interesting the way you use sets for this. Does the set needs to be rented entirely or individual cards can be rented out of it?

I have two accounts one for playing and one for rentals. The one for rentals are always rented out except for the short period before EOS when I recall them to do upgrades and move them from one account to another if necessary and then rent out for the EOS.

I will try to rent out the less used cards from my playing deck as well for the the EOS going forward. This time I had time so I rented out many of them, all the way down to 500k, so I could remain in CL.

Yeah Man, I am also facing the same issues now, as all of my cards start to expire from me renting I have a very low deck now am in gold 2 but I have reached champ 3.
I need to rent so many cards now but I don't have enough cash for it much dec gets as the price gets too high for the rents.

Yeah, that's a big anomaly this EOS craziness creates through the rental market.

I rent out dropping from Silver 1 to Silver 2. The extra income is worth more than the 3 chest.

I guess it should be max 48 hours, (0-24 hours for rental to stop) and 24 hours for cooldown.

My rentals were so cheap(I adjusted rentals after a month or more and they we set for lowest price) , that few of the cards are sitting on players deck for CP without even being used, I got them back some in less then 12 hours also.

Yes, but if you want to rent them back 24 hours or so before EOS, then you need to stop renting 3 days before EOS (72 hours). I did it at around 54 hours.

I got them back some in less then 12 hours also.

That is true, some get back much earlier than 48 hours.

I'm surprised you don't like death in gold. I think it's the better one (with water) at this level 😄

It's better in diamond. At least for me. My other splinters give me easier wins in gold.

Thanks for the information @gadrian. I have not really gotten into Splinterlands for gameplay but I can see the value of owning and renting cards. This post is really helpful.

Yes it is one of the most interesting parts of Splinterlands economy. And sooner or later, producers on land will have a big influence in the economy. And land will be rentable as well.
