The wonderful visit to the Novodevichi Monastery in Moscow

Hello archi lovers!

Sometimes we discover wonderful places almost by magic. That happened to me, as if instead of visiting an architectural complex of monasteries and churches almost by surprise, I was in an idyllic setting, the scene of a spiritual fantastic story.

And possibly these have been some of my favorite photographs I have taken, ones I like the most without a doubt. In a wonderful real scenario.

My previous post was about a cemetery, the Novodevichi Cemetery in Moscow, Russia, and I commented that there was a large arch-shaped gate that connected to another space and through there we accessed the Novodevichi Monastery.

The Novodevichi Monastery

This place, which is an UNESCO Heritage Site, is a complex of different religious buildings, in an Orthodox style if we could say it like this. You already know those beautiful onion-shaped domes that many shine from a distance, because it is a style in which gold or gold leaf abounds not only in its domes that adorn its towers but also in the rest of the interior decorations.

A visit that ends up becoming almost a religious experience in itself. Especially in the largest structure, the main one with a big tower and a white wall, which appears to be a convent and we see golden crosses on the top.

There we entered and verified that everything we said was like this or even better. Profuse, almost blinding golden decorations combined with colorful frescoes that amaze us. A mystical moment

So this unforgettable place becomes a magical walk and a special visit because among the vegetation of a quiet and bucolic park we find wonders.

There are different buildings, they all share a style but each one is different, there are small ones, a small church accompanied by other elements, a cross, statues of angels... that may accompany us as we walk around inspired and admiring such a peculiar place. And so the environment seems divine.

The other buildings are less opulent, some simpler, and others simply smaller but very charming. Because it seems that some appear among the vegetation and among the trees, the grass and the flowers that make everything even more pleasant and wonderful.

On a day with grayer moments it gave a bucolic feeling, but the contrast of those details that shone were impressive, until the sun came out and everything was even more intense and spectacular.

Different buildings, some with smoother facades and simple domes, others more ornate, more splendid, others simple chapels without towers but full of charm. Suddenly, some statue of someone called Denis Davidov... and other buildings probably where they kept work or maintenance equipment.

And it's difficult to give more details, or write more words. Because this is one of those cases in which we can only look and look again, admire that brilliant architecture that goes beyond a design, but rather evokes the beyond, the senses, the spirit and the beauty of the soul.

Moscow, Russia🇷🇺❤️ Europe

I just wrote a post about an architecture school that is a UNESCO world heritage site... the Orthodox style buildings are incredible. Here where I live there is an Orthodox church of which there are only 7 in the world. You inspired me to make a publication about it. Thank you for this exemplary post.

At first I thought that this was a mosque when I looked at the dome. Turns out this is a church. The architecture is very beautiful and very classic @duvinca

Hi @duvinca, Many unique architectural features have been collected through your architectural exploration. It can be seen by looking at the photos. On observing the buildings, it can be seen how many buildings with onion-shaped tops are assembled in Indian architectural elements. The murals painted inside are similar to the murals inside Buddhist temples in our country.
