Saturday Savers 2023 Progress Report Week 18

It's that day again ! Time for my weekly #SaturdaySavers update....

If you're not familiar with SaturdaySavers, it's a fabulous initiative run by @shanibeer writing as @sally-saver on the @eddie-earner account, where we all support each other in getting to our savings goals.

Let's start with this week's progress table;

In keeping with the new format I've been tinkering with, I'm not going through the table line by line, but rather going to talk about a few things that I thought about over the last week and how they relate to #SaturdaySavers (and particularly how I did).

Writers Block

Last week was one where I suffered from a really terrible case of writers' block.

I only wrote three posts during the whole week, which makes me feel like I let myself down badly after a few weeks where I really started to build up momentum.

But the reality is that I shouldn't be surprised or beat myself up about it. It's not really surprising that I'd sit down at a screen at 10pm and find my brain was a blank. It was actually one of the most intense weeks of work I'd been through for several years, for all kinds of reason. Nothing particularly bad, just an incredible amount going on, a lot of work to do with some serious time pressure to it, and a good number of technical glitches to overcome.

This has helped me reach a number of conclusions.

First, that when I have a week like this, just accept that I'm going to be mentally drained, and that it just adds more pressure if I feel like I have to post on Hive. It's supposed to be fun, not a chore !

Second, recognise that the longer it is between posts, the harder that next post will be to make. I need to learn that not every post has to be a word-perfect masterpiece, sometimes it might be better just to give myself five minutes to bang down some words, read them through to clear out the typos, and hit the "Publish" button.

Third, is to recognise how I work. Sometimes I've got a brain like mashed potato, and other times it's fizzing with all kinds of ideas for posts. When it's fizzing, I need to find a way that works for me to note down the ideas. That way, when my head is full of treacle, I can look at the ideas, pick one and make a post.

Fourth is to write shorter posts ! This is one which will take practice ! I've realised that a lot of my posts (and probably this one as well, lol) are 10-minute reading time monsters, and most people upvoting them do it because they recognise me and want to return my upvotes to them. I always wonder how many actually read what I've written. Writing 2-3 minute posts might enable me to product twice as many actual posts while retaining the quality, and be accessible to a larger audience.

Trying For The Power Up Month Badge

Now i know that it's possible to get a green mark for just powering up 1 HIVE each day, Im going to try for my first Power Up Month badge in Hivebuzz. So far, I'm on day 6 and managed to remember to power up each day. Wish me luck ! 😀

SBI's for SaturdaySavers Posts

The new idea of giving an SBI to whoever comes second in the SaturdaySaver author of the week poll seems to be working, and definitely takes some of the stress off me as well as helping to remind me to vote. This last week it was @successchar - SBI on the way, well done !

Great progress on your savings.
I hate when writers' block kicks in, Acouple of things I do when it hits is 1) I'll find a good quote & write a little something about as I understand it. 2) I find a writing prompt that interest me & use it.

Writing down your ideas is a great way too. I keep journals with everything I want to learn about or do or ideas of things I want to write about. I keep a note book right on my desk by my computer for easy access.

Good Luck! on powering up daily. I tried that once for several months but I always seemed to miss a day, I think it was because of the time difference.

Lastly, I'm honored to have been nominated & even more honored to have won!!

I find that posting goes in waves and it always takes me a lot of time 😁

Spending a little time to plan things in advance and set routines and boundaries can help. One of my plans with the Savers Club post was that it could be written in half an hour and then half an hour to respond to comments so that I knew it was possible even during busy work and life times.

Some people write all their posts in one or two weekly sessions and then schedule them for publication.

I'm sure you'll find the routine that is right for you 😍
