How to get chaos legion cards much cheaper

get cards much cheaper.jpg

I had recently a very interesting discussion over a chat regarding Splinterlands. Somebody told me that he felt it was not fair that new players were disadvantaged in the game. That it was somewhat impossible to grow organically in the game.
I had to say that he was right but he missed one important point. Most top players didn't reach their place in an organic way. Splinterlands isn't really a free to play game. It's a game that needs some investment so that you can really earn something with it.

There is of course the summoners spellbook. Then, if you want to grow with the rewards that you earn, you will probably give up before long because you will see that you don't manage to progress. Once you understand the game and you think that you are stuck, it might be a good idea to invest in some cards. However it's important that you invest in the correct ones :-)

I discourage new players you from buying chaos packs in the pre-sale

If you are struggling to get enough money and vouchers together to purchase a handful of packs during the pre-sale, it's maybe not such a good idea to participate in it. Let's be clear, the pre-sale starts to make sense if you can purchase at least 50 packs. However, even at this level the free card that you will get certainly doesn't compensate for the vouchers that you have to purchase to get your packs.

You want chaos legion cards all the same? There are several possibilities that will be much cheaper for you...

Buy packs on hive-engine

First of all the official pre-sale over the Splinterland front-end is not the only place that you can get chaos legion packs. If you are not hungry for the special edition reward card, you can actually purchase chaos packs from hive-engine. At the moment of writing this post, one voucher will cost you 24.5 Hive. Then you need to add 4$ to that, to purchase a pack on Splinterlands.

You can buy full fledged chaos packs in the same hive-engine market for 15.25 Hive at the moment. No need to buy vouchers. They are already exchanged.

Let's just compare this:

  • On Splinterlands a pack will cost you 24.5 + 5.23 = 29.73 Hive
  • On hive-engine a chaos pack costs 15.25 Hive

It's almost double the price! Are you willing to pay double just to have the chance to get the special edition reward card? Of course, if you buy the packs on hive-engine they won't qualify either for all the other goodies. But if you want affordable packs, buy them on Hive-engine!

Wait for the cards in the market

When you buy packs of course it's a great experience opening them and hoping for the legendary gold foil. Truth is that you will get a lot of cards that you won't be able to use in your deck. Once the packs are free to open, you will see plenty of cards from the new chaos legion series in the markets on splinterlands and peakmonsters. If you wait a couple of days until the prices settle, you will be able to buy exactly the cards that you want. Don't forget that there will be a total of 15 million packs and there will be a lot of cards in the shop and prices will rather go down.

Just keep in mind that the burn/point value of the cards of the Chaos edition are lower than the ones from untamed edition. I therefore don't believe that the value of these cards will be that high to start with.

I would suggest not to overpay these packs and be patient. Wait and only buy the cards that you really need.

If they are selling for that price on Hive Engine, I wonder why the person even participated in the pre-sale. Or does that person not know that vouchers can be sold as well?

Some people actually only buy for the advantages linked to the pre-sale and then they sell the packs back on hive-engine to buy more of them in the shop. Like that they can leverage the number of packs they buy and get more chances from the drops.

Yea I think I'll pass on that and I would rather just get free packs and airdrop points after the pre-sale lol.

They want to buy 1000 for the title. Just the title alone is 100.000 airdrop points. Plus 1000 guaranteees one Gold card and another 19 normal cards on future airdrops.

Oh that makes a lot of sense then!

Ah ok that does make sense. I don't really think I will fight for that title or extra airdrops. Instead I prefer to have my vouchers fund my packs after the fact.

Great article, the reason why vouchers are more expensive than chaos legion packs is because you miss out in the promo airdrop and all the next 15 airdrops in the future which will have a lot of value..just look at how expensive the llama is.

But I agree with you buying vouchers is probably not the best for a starter on a limited budget. I'll even suggest buying cards directly that you need and build up one or two splinters might be a good way to start

I agree with you that it can be nice to have these drops but to have a real chance to get some cards, you really need to buy a lot of packs. I think for people that are rather new in the game, it makes much more sense to buy the cards that are needed from the market.

Thanks a lot for stopping by!

Regardless of the value of the Vouchers, it is an incredible opportunity for veterans to have tickets for several airdrops. For the newbies, renting or building a balanced deck should be prioritized as you said dear.

Thanks for such a nice post ^^

I'm seeing some people who are actually buying packs just to sell them on hive-engine, to get more packs and then to sell them again. Like that they can leverage their chances to get airdrops. It's not the worst strategy :-).

Thanks for the comment and for stopping by!

OMG!!! What a strategy 🤑

I'm not smart enough to see the things from the bigger picture. They must be alien 🙃
I thank you for the vision you shared :)

Hi there. All the information you give in your post caught my attention, but what was not very clear to me is how I can buy the card packs from hive enginee. So far I have only managed to sell and buy tokens, I had no idea that this could be done. Could you give me a mini tutorial? Thanks.

All the Splinterlands packs can be bought in tokenized form on hive-engine or even on the wax blockchain. Let's say you buy a chaos legion pack on tribaldex. You can then import the packs into the game.

For that you need to go to the "open" tab in your Splinterlands account.

image.png

For each series there is a symbol and at the bottom there is this kind of double coin. Click on it and another window will open.

image.png

On the left you will see your packs. You can then on the right import the packs into the game by setting the number, the source (hive-engine) and then click deposit. Now the cards will be in the game.

You can do the same the other way around and send your packs to hive-engine where you can trade them.

Hope this helps :-)

Voucher prices are TOO high right now; I would strongly recommend to just flip them: sell them right now and buy them back in a few weeks when the whole hype is gone.

But what if the hype only intensifies?

That's always a possibility; in this case, we'll all become rich :D

I totally agree. I'm selling all my vouchers at the moment. Hopefully prices will go down and I will be able to buy them back much cheaper :-)

Another fantastic post Mr. Achim. Thank you for this great tip. I can't afford to buy 50 packs in game, so I guess I'll head over to Hive Engine and grab, maybe 5 or 10. Just for fun!

That's an idea or you just wait till the cards are put on the market and you buy from there.

Yeah I think it's matter of a mindset change from conventional games. In Splinterlands, the cards that one buys have a value attached to it and can be rented or sold anytime, versus conventional games where items/cards bought with money don't have much monetary value.

Thanks to renting you can really have a return on your assets or you can sell them. There is an intrensic value to the cards and because of the upgrading system, the number of cards is diminuishing making them rarer over time.

ya at this point its not a good idea for new players to try and participate in presale, that may change we will see.

The situation is very dynamic and we probably need to be alert in case prices change a lot and change our strategies.

yes definitely! Looks like pack price has bottomed and back around $13 right now. Voucher $19.51

Those who want to have packs then it's not the right time. Better to wait and buy when Market settles after the sale.

I also think so. Maybe if you want to get in on all the airdrops and titles it's worth to buy them in pre-sale, otherwise it's wiser to wait to have the cards on the market.

Actually, for players on a tight budget, buying packs is a bad idea no matter where they buy it from. But nice comparison for those who want packs without the presale perks, at a cheaper price.

For anyone on a small budget, the best solution is to buy the right cards for their deck from the market. Packs do give random cards, and generally one needs to buy many packs to be worth it. There is of course the element of luck, buy can you rely on that when you pay for something? Stats are better.

I think that even for bigger budgets it makes sense to buy the cards directly from the market. I remember with untamed packs, before card value to the lift, it was more profitable to actually buy cards from the market rather than buying them even at discounted prices on hive-engine.

One of the best pieces of comforting advice I have seen to newbies on Splinterlands, so thank you very much. I'll head over to Hive Engine and take a look :-)
