This week prompt is about a moral questioning situation, an act that still represents you bad but you also can't fight the urge or interest to return $500,000 to a corrupt politician in Nigeria, especially as a minimal wage earner as written in the prompt.
Do you know why the word minimal wage hits different, the minimal wage in Nigeria was recently increased from #30,000 ( $19)to #70,000 ($45) but only government institution or companies sticks to that amount, most private firm or company pays less that #70,000 monthly.
So considering how bad the economy is, and the cost of living get higher daily, no one can survive properly with 70k monthly.
And you expect such person to return $500,000 to a greedy politician sitting on wealth , going on different vacations, and driving different cars, when the money could be poor public fund.
I know the situation of the country doesn't make you entitled to the money, but it's a huge temptation that only a religious or a very Godly person can overcome.
It takes one with so much dignity, honesty and fear of God to return such amount, to a bloody politician.
As kids we always assume situations like this playfully, living in our fantasy , the "what if" questions, but we know it might not happen, and we just want to assume, I just remembered such games and I feel I'm about to play one now.
In response to this week prompt, I won't return the money to the politician, the politician just lost the money, same way he got it, he stole money and I stole it from him by chance .
I pray for God provision daily, and it could be God's way of blessing me.
In other, not to be bitten by my conscience, I would donate 50% of that money to different less privileged homes, empower small business owners and pay some hospital bills in public hospitals.
Fix my life and that of my family with the remaining 50%.
Having such a amount of money, how you use it tells alot about you, it shouldn't be used selfishly, if used selfishly them you aren't different from the politician.
On a second thought, returning $500,000 is quite risky to you as a person, politician like secrets and can go a long way to cover up a secret.
In my country this won't be announced on a national Tv, they would keep it a secret and might kill or accuse you falsely at the end.
What if the situation turns differently and you find yourself in jail,my country is lawless.
Taking the money to the police would be the worse mistake, you might be killed and the money will be taken by the wrong person too.
Another person would want to own the money forcefully.
Returning the money might be risky, I might not spend the money in three years, I will just focus on keeping I in a safe for three to five years for my safety, and live a very normal life.
Immediate spending will make you a prime suspect, if I stay around the environment I found the money, then I would relocate in few years too, live a very normal and quiet life for a long time, then when I feels safe I won't spend directly, I would definitely use a different detail while utilizing the money.
This is my humble opinion, in a country like Nigeria, where our politicians don't care about the poor masses, this would be my action, to benefit me and other poor masses, at the end of the day, it's about how the money was spent, the lives I reached out to and the stories I change, that would create a different between me and the politician, because in this case I also stole.
