Censorship, Decentralization, and Airdrops: A Tale of Pi Network and the Hive Experience
I have a story to tell.
Two experiences inspire this. One is on Pi Network, and the other is the post by @ukotex about airdrops.
As I started to comment on the airdrop post, I noticed that my words grew to 300 plus, so I decided to turn it into a post.
Censorship on Pi Network
Let me comment first on my experience with Pi Network before I touch on the topic of airdrop.
Last night, I wrote a short post on Fireside Forum about the current craze in Tap-to-Earn games on the Ton blockchain. Earlier this afternoon, I received a notification that my post was deleted due to sensitive information.

I was talking about the attention market and the reason why I shared it is not only to test Pi Network what kind of content they allow in their platform but also to learn something from what's going on in the TON blockchain. It's the game of eyeballs.
However, the moderator didn't like my post so it was deleted. This reminded me of my experience on Reddit in 2021 and this made me reflect on Pi Network's idea of decentralization. For what they allow on their platform, I call it a kind of centralized decentralization, a very different kind from the one we have here on Hive. I appreciate Pi Network's coin system requirement before allowing any pioneer to comment or write a post. This prevents spam. However, the kind of censorship I experienced was a big turn-off for me. Unlike here on Hive, if we don't like any content, we can just downvote them and reduce the content's visibility. At least, here on Hive, once a post is published, no single central authority can delete content.
Airdrop
Airdrop was the first thing that attracted me when I joined crypto in 2021. My youngest son and I followed the instructions in coinmarketcap on how to get the airdrop, but our efforts all ended up wasted. We shared all the links they wanted us to share and connect to whatever the projects wanted us to connect, but we received no announcement or any update as to what happened to those airdrops.
When I joined Hive in August 2021, we had a different airdrop that was based on prior stakes. The one we have here is more reliable and certain.
Concerning the airdrop in the TON blockchain, @ukotex is right that scammers are widespread. The increase in the number of scammers tells us that there are also a lot of opportunities. One must be extra cautious and discerning and practice your third sense to protect oneself from financial loss.
Nevertheless, my airdrop experience with TON is mixed. So far, I already received five; two are dust, the Goldverse and the Catizen airdrop, for which I received $0.26 and $2 respectively. Anyhow, I did not spend much time there.
The other two surprised me: DOGS and X Empire. I received 26 USDT for a minimal effort in Dogs. In the case of X Empire, I received an X Empire card when I reached level 21, minted it, and sold it for 3.5 TON; that's 16 USDT. I considered the amount I received from selling the X Empire NFT as an installment. I am still waiting for the 30 September airdrop. Currently, I now reached level 22, A Fortune Founder with 7 billion profit per hour and 834 billion X coins. With the remaining six days left, I can no longer reach Level 23, the Industry Disruptor.
The last one is tricky; Gamee's WAT. I received 3,509 WAT. They gave us two options, either to get the whole airdrop but with a substantial gas fee or receive it in installment and earn yields in return. I decided to go for the second option and so I received 344 WAT yesterday in my Telegram wallet. As for the remaining 3,165 WAT, I had to wait for 88 days, and 17 hours and 38 minutes to receive them. The trick is I have to pay TON to get the airdrop. To receive a $ 0.26 worth of airdrop, I paid $0.18 worth of TON. If I had known this, I would have chosen the first option so I could get the whole airdrop and pay the gas fee only once.
And so that's my story for today.
In comparing my experiences with Pi Network and Hive, it’s clear that while Pi offers accessibility through its mobile app, I consider its centralized approach to content moderation a significant drawback. I prefer Hive's decentralized governance and user-controlled moderation. As for airdrops, I wish that any Hivian that would involved in this airdrop outside of the Hive network will be protected from scammers and will gain significant rewards to be utilized to increase their HIVE power!
