Word on the street is it is quite hot down in Panama City, Florida. In fact, my brother in law messaged the other day and said that it was something like 107 degrees with the heat index. They finally got a bit of rain yesterday afternoon, but if anything that will probably just serve to increase the humidity.
Needless to say the theme of the games yesterday was hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. It's funny because I can almost hear my sister in law reminding the ladies to stay hydrated. She's such a mom!
They only have one game today, but it is in the heat of the afternoon at 3:30 PM Central time. That's 4:30 PM for those of us on East coast time. I am hoping to be in a spot where I can actually sit and watch the game. Yesterday I was busy at work for most of the games and I missed a good portion of them.
Things got started late yesterday morning with a 6 to 0 win for the Lady Lasers against a Indiana Gators team. They followed that up with a very close game against Mizuno Flagship. In fact, they were trailing most of the game 1 to 0, but they were able to come away with a walk off 2 to 1 victory to stay undefeated for the day.
Finally, they had a later game against a Gold Glove Midwest team. This is an organization that I have never heard of before, so I can't say if they are old or new. The Lasers got started hitting fairly quickly and by the beginning of the second inning they were up 4 to 0. Unfortunately, you could see that storm clouds were moving in and by the beginning of the third inning they had to delay the game due to lightning.
Everyone retreated to their cars and that's when the torrential downpour started to happen. We were sitting there as my sister and brother in law Face-timed their daughter who was up in Michigan with us and you could hear the rain in the background hammering down on the car roof.
Needless to say, they ended up cancelling the rest of the games for the day. Oddly enough, when I look at the app now, they are crediting the Lady Lasers with a 4 to 0 victory over the other team. I guess since it is pool play they aren't too worried about finishing the game. That definitely wouldn't happen if it was bracket play.
It will be interesting to see how the ladies do today against the Birmingham Mustangs and if they can stay undefeated to snag a high seed in bracket play. I have a feeling the ladies are hungry for a long tournament run, I just hope they can stay ahead of the heat and not let it wear them down.
