Dodging to Victory

(edited)

Today I will talk about Splinterlands and in this post I will show you how having cards with high dodge chances are an excellent choice for your battles.

Since I prefer to show in practice, let's go straight to the battle part so I can explain my strategy in detail.

BATTLE

This is a battle that took place in the Diamond 1 league and most of the monsters used are at maximum level, now let's explain how the cards I selected for this battle were the right choice for it.

The rules for this battle are: The Melee Mayhem rule that allows monsters with melee attacks to attack from any position. The Stampede rule that allows the Trample ability to be used multiple times in a row. And the Explosive Weaponry rule that makes all monsters gain the Blast ability.

First, let's start by talking about the cards I selected and what uses they will have on the battlefield.

  • The first card I selected was Summoner Astral Entity from the Death Deck. This summoner will grant all my monsters the Dodge ability, which will increase the chance of my monsters dodging melee and ranged attacks by +25%. Astral Entity also has the Resurrect ability, which will bring 1 of my monsters back to life when it is defeated. Lastly, Astral Entity will remove -2 shields from my opponent's monsters.

I selected this summoner because it will be very useful for my strategy of making my monsters dodge my opponent's attacks and also because it will reduce their defense.

  • Now let's move on to the monsters. My first choice was Almo Cambio from the Neutral Deck. It is a monster that has no attack but has a large amount of life and speed, so it will be a great choice for my strategy. Almo Cambio also has Phase, which allows him to dodge magical attacks, the ability Immunity, which makes him immune to negative status effects, the ability Return Fire, which makes him deal part of the ranged damage he receives back to the opponent's monster, and the ability Magic Reflect, which makes him deal part of the magical damage back to the opponent's monster.

  • My second monster was Venator Kinjo. The reason I chose him was because of his abilities. First, he has Reflection Shield, which will be an excellent defense against the ability Blast that my opponent's monsters have. This means that my opponent's monsters will only deal damage to my other monsters when Almo Cambio is defeated or if they have an ability that attacks my backline. Venator Kinjo also has the ability Immunity, the ability Camouflage, which makes him not receive any direct attacks unless he is in first position, and he has the ability Slow, which will reduce the speed of enemy monsters by -1.

  • My third monster was the Spirit Hoarder, I also selected it because of its abilities because its stats aren't very good. The Spirit Hoarder has the ability Triage that will heal the monsters in my backline, it has the ability Dispel that will remove all positive status from the monster that the Spirit Hoarder attacks and lastly it has the ability Blind that will increase by +15% the chances of enemy monsters missing the attack.

  • My fourth monster was the Doctor Blight, it also doesn't have good stats but it has a low mana cost and good abilities so I selected it even though for this battle it won't have much use. Doctor Blight has the ability Affliction which has a 50% chance of eliminating any healing from the monster it is applied to, he has the ability Camouflage, he has the ability Poison which has a 50% chance of being applied to the monster that Doctor Blight attacks and when applied it will cause 2 damage to the enemy monster at the end of each round until it is defeated and lastly Doctor Blight has the ability Scavenger which makes him gain 1 life whenever a monster is defeated in battle.

  • My fifth monster is the Supply Runner, it has better stats than my other monsters but its main function is in its abilities which are Swiftness which will grant +1 speed to all my monsters and the ability Strengthen which will grant +1 life to all my monsters.

  • My sixth and final monster is Furious Chicken, she is in this battle just to be a punching bag.

After the explanation of my cards, you must have noticed that my focus for the battle was not on causing damage but on dodging enemy attacks and for that I chose 5 abilities that are essential to increase my success rate. They are Dodge which is granted by Summoner Astral Entity, Slow which will reduce the speed of enemy monsters and is granted by Venator Kinjo, Blind which will increase the chances of enemy monsters hitting the attack by +15%, Swiftness which will increase the speed of my monsters by +1 and Phase which will allow Almo Cambio to dodge magic attacks.

This combination is incredibly powerful and even after several rounds Almo Cambio was still standing at the end of the battle and that without receiving any healing. I was even too lazy to count how many times he dodged because there were dozens of times, but you can see all of this in the battle link above.

And in the end I got my well-deserved SPS after this hard battle.
