Hello everyone, my beautiful hive naija people, it's another beautiful weekend and we are so happy to have you here once again. Itβs nice to get everyone together every weekend to talk about random things and just have fun.
As we all know, the Hive Naija Weekend Engagement is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigeria brethren through engagement and it's also now concerned of the well being of each and everyone who is part of the engagement. This account was opened to make the engagement more personal and officia. You can find the INTRODUCTION POST to read more about the purpose and aim of this new account and also do well to follow the account so as to know when a post is made.
A long time ago, I thought, I shared and I asked "Why don't we chat on hive every Weekend?"
And you all said... YES
"Well, we won't be the first as there are some weekend engagement trends already on Hive! But this would be THE NIGERIAN VERSION!"
The last time, the topic was βRHYMES"
We had over 1000+ comments in our last weekend engagement. The comments were literally on fire with everyone having so much to say. We hope it gets better from here. Letβs see if we can still make 1000 comments possible this weekend, shall we? π. It has always been so nice seeing people who dedicate their time to engaging and sharing their thoughts and ideas with us, I want to appreciate you all for the consistency, quality engagement and your efforts, let's keep them coming. Special thanks to everyone who makes this hang out possible.
I will drop a topic every Friday (Today's topic is below), share your thoughts on the matter, reply to someone else opinion, and interrogate the opinion if you like. Keep the discussion on. If you don't have anything to say about the topic. Just reply to someone else's comment.
Do all these in the comment section, as that is where it all goes down.
This week's engagement starts immediately after you see this post and ends on Sunday at 11:59 pm.
Prizes are distributed to the winners after considering their interactions and also their contributions to the topic. And we have made some little changes and improvements in the prizes too. This week's prizes;
Special prize to our top engager that is the person with more meaningful responses to others comment even if he or she didnβt make a personal comment) gets 5 hive besides the normal prize. This is to encourage meaningful discussion.
1st prize - 5 hive
2nd Prize - 4 Hive
3rd Prize - 3 Hive
4th Prize - 2 HIVE
5th Prize - 1 Hive
Prizes courtesy of:
@Samostically, our delegator @zuerich and special thanks to our curators.
Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing about βFAVORITE CHILDHOOD MYTHβ. There are so many childhood myth, like how our parents always stopped us from drinking the water inside coconut that it makes us dull! As how naw? π€£ Well, letβs hear yours!
***Remember, the aim of the hangout is to bring Nigerians together so make sure you have this in mind when responding to the questions. And feel free to add even more to it if you have any.
If you think you have a topic you would want us to discuss about, please feel free to suggest them to us. All you have to do is suggest the topic in the comment and tag @hopestylist to it. To our topic choosers, they will receive 10% of the hangout post they suggested the topics. For this weekβs topic, it was chosen by @beckyroyal.
Oh yes before I forget, the winners will be chosen based on the number of new members they invite to join the engagement. You know what you benefit when you engage so why not let others know about it. In fact I will advise you look beyond the prize and look more to doing something different even for your Naija brethren by showing them the way here.
There are no further rules, please banter as you like, speak any Nigerian language (Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik), anything, as long as someone else can understand.

Hi everyone! I hope we dey alright? Iβd like to say since we resumed this hangout. Weβve all been supportive and engaging.
I wanted to say aside the engagement, this account was created back in 2022 to support Nigerians too. A lot happened, but we are back and thatβs the next phase.
Very very soon (almost a done deal lol). Through this account and with some new sponsors, we would be able to curate quality posts like we did then. For now if youβre interested in supporting, you can follow Sam.hangout curation trail using hive.vote as myself and @hopestylist would start this soon.
Letβs have fun!
My myth growing up was the sun and rain at the same time meaning a lioness abi tiger has given birth hehehehe
Eii! This is going to be a very good one for everyone. I hope we keep on growing and not go back down again.
As for your myth, I can totally relate with it. I join that crew. π

Thank you so much.
This is insightful.
This one is very funny and I think it's mostly known almost everywhere. Like when you grow up, you will just remember some things you've fed yourself with growing up and will just be laughing
Myths choke!.
So the one I remember is them telling you "* don't jump over someone's head, else he/she will not grow again."
If we're playing then and by accident a child jumps another's head, they'll have to tell the child to jump back the second time else that person will remain small like that forever.
If you have short genes, just saying it,which one is "it's because they used to jump over his head when he was small"ππ
God abegeth thee π€²π
@chefqueen @babygirl888 @goldenproject @klvnrex. Which ones did you guys hear growing up?
π this is a first for me. Abeg why are they jumping heads in the first place π
A good question! π π

Been a while, but I am glad to be back here. Talking about myths, how many of us here heard the one about fish eye, how eating the eye of a fish can make one dull, or if someone crosses your leg while sitting, you will give birth to someone like em, or when walking in the market, one shouldn't bend down to look back in-between their leg π€£π€£π€£π€£ if not....

I remember as a young girl, my dad will always say I should stop picking my food from the ground once it falls down. Well, that's if you aren't fast enough, hehe. Most times, the food and I fall together. It won't even be up to a second and I have picked it up that my dad won't even notice it. ππββοΈββ‘οΈ
We call it the five seconds rule. As long as I can pick up my food from the ground in five seconds, to me, it's safe to still eat, lol.

Another angle to this is that lizard should not eat the tooth or else it would not grow back.

Childhood myths are numerous. I don't even know which to choose from but one myth that I fell for and still fall for today (unconsciously) is the one my mom told me. She said...
So as I was growing tall as a child, my mom claimed that it was the food going to my legs and that was why I was tall and slim like a poleππ.
Thank God for education. I learnt better in school but till date, I unconsciously take a seat whenever I want to eat due to that mythπ.
Trust me, as a child then, I believed everything my parents said hook, line and sinker
Legs how na??? And u believed? How old were you?
Do you get? π
It sounds true though because you are standing, lol. Any child will fall for that. π
Tall is even still peppering you.... What of the short ones but with thick legs? My friend's mum would always abuse her with it that all the food were directly going to the legs
πππ
My mum used to say that instead of the food going to my tummy to digest, it is going to my legs. Her Nick name then for me was atinga...linga πππ

Hmmm, there are actually a lot of myths, i mean a whole lot of them but heres the one i found more interesting, sounds really funny and i sincerely feel stupid for a believing a thing like that, it says;
"if you kill a snake servant you'll never have a child in life, you'll be barren forever"
A snakes servant is actually a reptile called a salamander, it looked like a snake having a tongue that was slit into two like that of a snake so it was nicknamed "snake servant"
i remember how the sight of one was like a nightmare, which lady doesn't want a child in marriage?
@abenad @xaralight @deraa @ajumaa @sharonia02 what childhood myth do you remember?
My topic suggestion is
"Is Love enough to sustain a Marriage or relationship, if it doesn't alone , what else should ?"
