A warm welcome to my blog these lovely Friday evening, I hope you've had a wonderful week and a great day so far, today I'll love to take you through my experience at the village I once teach, when I went to carry my luggages, I was told of the plan to build the community landmark and a signpost that welcome everyone to the village.

So since I was to stat throughout the weekend, I decided to help out with some of the work, like manpower needed to make the signpost construction a success, since it might most likely be the last time I'll be visiting the community in a long time after these very visit.

The village is Odo Eku and it's located in Isin LGA of Kwara state, and behind a former staff of the community school, though as a volunteer then, the king saddled me with the responsibility of purchasing the bricks, cement, paint and other items needed for the construction of the signpost, by giving me the required fund, that was after we all sat down to make an estimation of how much it'll cost us.

For the estimation, we plan to purchase 30 pieces of Bricks, which is been sold at ₦300 each, also the place was to buy a bag of cement for the construction and plastering of the signpost, and a bag of cement is been sold for ₦4000, the price if paint needed is ₦4000 as well, making a today of ₦17,000 but the king gave me ₦25,000 should in case price increase, payment of bricklayers and as well for transportation of the items to the site.

The good and surprising parts of my experience is that non of the villages selling these items agrees to collect money from me, instead they willing gave out the items out for free, that mean I ended up not spending a dime from the money given to me for the project, so I had to return the fund back to the king, who promise to add to the fund and use it to implement other good amenities to the village.

The reason for this can't be far fetch, because everyone think highly of the king because he's a good man who is always after the progress of the community(I've once wrote about his kind gesture here few months ago), unlike other neighboring kings that are mostly after feeding their pockets alone.

That's why during the construction of the signpost, the was there to lay the first brick, as seen in the image above, before letting the bricklayer take charge of the rest, after the construction it was painted the following day and by evening of that Saturday it was inaugurated by the king, chiefs and other religions leader in the community.

The purpose of the signpost is to create an awareness to those newly coming into that vicinity that they're in this village, it also serve as a landmark that state the boundary of the village.

Indeed it is good to be good!

When one is in authority position, it is important to care about those who are under you...

The good deeds of the King made the villagers to willingly contribute their resources to help out in the construction work. If it were a bad king, some will purposely increase the price to because of his wickedness.

It pays to be good.

Good Bless the King! With a selfless man such as him, it would be easy to see why everyone pitches in to help, including those who could easily charge him for the supplies.

When people build a community like that, always about the people, it is nice to see those around him doing the same. What a wonderful community to be surrounded by!

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see so many participating every week. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for them. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing. I hope the week has found you healthy and happy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
