My Fashion Journey | Taking Up A Cloth Sewing Task

Good morning my fellow needle workers, I wish us all a blissful week. This is my first post in this group and I'm super excited about it and I can't wait to share with you how my fashion designing journey has been and also show you my latest design right from when I was young, I loved fashion.I remember back then while I was in primary school, my mum got me a doll for my 9th birthday and my God, I was so happy..That doll became my best friend to the extent that I'll make cloths out of scraps for the doll. I'll cut my old clothes and make skirts and dresses for it... During the Corona period in 2020, i decided to learn how to sew just to while away the time because school wasn't in session at that time. I was so happy when my mum gave me the money to learn there..At first, she was skeptical about it at first but as time goes on she agreed but only on the condition that it won't affect my studies.Learning how to sew was one of the best decision in my life.

Fabric Sourcing

Earlier last week, a friend of my mine and also my customer requested that I make a red blouse for her. She specifically for a crepe fabric and also sent me a picture of what she wants. The next day I set out to source for a good and nice crepe fabric..I got one and a half yard of crepe fabric and then I went back home and got to work

The first thing I did was to cut the cloth on a brown paper before transferring it to the main fabric. That way , the chances of making mistake is minimized and to manage the fabric.I placed the pattern paper on the fabric and cut it out

I folded the clothes into two, marked 4 inches allowance on both side and sew my dart..The next thing I did was to fix my zipper ...One thing I love to do is to fix my zipper even before I finish sewing because it's easier for me that way

For the front part , I used the same method I used in applying the dart on the back part for the front part as well. Then I tacked the button and sew an elastic rubber at the rough side to give it a ruffle effect (as seen) on the front. This is finally looking like what I wanted and I'm excited and so loving the process..The fabric is giving all shades of beauty and I'm so very much in love..I think I'll make one for myself..lol

She wanted a balloon sleeve and I did justice to that ..I folded the edges of the cut fabric for the arm side and inserted the elastic rubber to give it a ruffled and bell effect, then I proceeded to sewing it on the rest of the clothes. This is what the finished clothes looks like and I'm loving every bit of it.. I'm still a work in progress and from here , it can only get better. I hope to share more of my works with you here ..
